As Chuseok approaches, we visited the Ilsan 5-day market, which is bustling with the festive spirit of the season!
The Ilsan Traditional Market is a traditional market that operates on the 3rd and 8th of each month.
Located near Ilsan Station on the Gyeongui-Jungang Line, it is easily accessible by public transport.
Positioned near Exit 2 of Ilsan Station, the market is open on the 3rd, 8th, 13th, 18th, 23rd, and 28th of each month. Please check the dates before visiting!
Currently, the parking lot of the Ilsan Traditional Market is under construction and not in operation. However, temporary parking is allowed in designated areas around the market.
After parking, you can use the area for up to 2 hours, which is convenient for shopping.
The market was bustling with activity, much more than usual, as people prepared for Chuseok. From fruits and vegetables to traditional offerings, there was an abundance of goods available.
The lively sounds of haggling and friendly conversations filled the air, creating a vibrant atmosphere at the Ilsan 5-day market!
The Ilsan Traditional Market is adjacent to the Seomun Shopping District, and on market days, stalls line the main roads and surrounding streets, making it a large and crowded event.
With over 100 years of history, the Ilsan 5-day market is a representative traditional market of Goyang City, originating from the 'Sapojang' in the Daehwa-dong area.

As we walked through the market, we saw an array of seasonal products for Chuseok, including fresh chestnuts, jujubes, apples, and pears, all beautifully displayed.
The aroma of freshly made pancakes wafted through the air, adding to the festive atmosphere.
Butcher shops prepared a variety of fresh pork, chicken, and beef, while delicious rice cakes, especially songpyeon, were plentiful. The vegetables were also incredibly fresh.
We noticed various types of bread and seasonal peppers available, showcasing the market’s diversity.
The fish were impressively fresh, highlighting why the Ilsan 5-day market is so popular.
With vibrant kimchi varieties and many types of greens like bracken and bellflower root, the market was a feast for the senses.
The warm and welcoming nature of the long-standing vendors added to the charm, creating a market atmosphere that cannot be found in large supermarkets.
I also bought some freshly made pancakes and a bottle of Sikhye to enjoy. I highly recommend visiting the Ilsan 5-day market!
