A Vibrant Experience at the 38th Goyang Haengju Cultural Festival

Hello!
This weekend, I visited the 38th Goyang Haengju Cultural Festival, a representative 'historical cultural festival' of Goyang Special City, which has been selected as a representative tourism festival of Gyeonggi Province for seven consecutive years.
The festival was a lively event that aimed to inherit the spirit of victory from the Battle of Haengju, one of the 'three great battles' of the Imjin War, and to widely promote its historical and cultural value.
To help visitors fully enjoy the festival while avoiding the midday heat, all programs were carefully scheduled to start after 2 PM.
Now, let me introduce the hot 'festival scene' where the beautiful scenery of the Han River intertwined with the breath of history!
1) 'I have been waiting for you!' - A cozy resting place with delicious food
The first place I visited was the 'Haengju Sanseong Historical Park.'
From the entrance, witty banners caught the eye, welcoming visitors with phrases like 'I have been waiting for you!' and 'Come on, let's go!'. These charming words heightened my anticipation for the festival.
No festival would be complete without the joy of food! The first thing I encountered was the food market, where various delicious dishes were sold, delighting the visitors.
Additionally, there were numerous shaded resting areas and cultural spots throughout the event space, allowing families to relax and enjoy the festival at their own pace.
The festival was rich with attractions, including a delightful 'handmade crafts market'.
The highlight of the Goyang Haengju Cultural Festival was the 'Stone Throwing Competition', a signature program that has now been held for six years. This event reinterprets the main tactics used by our ancestors to repel Japanese forces during the Battle of Haengju through a modern game format.
After the exciting team competition, starting at 2 PM, a 'Stone Throwing Experience Arena' was open for all festival attendees to participate in.
It was impressive to see children and adults alike throwing stone bags together, especially those participating in family competitions, who shared thrilling moments as they broke the targets.
At the 'Haengju Sanseong Stamp Tour', participants learned history through various traditional games in an engaging way.
Popular games like 'The die has been cast', 'A rice cake falling from the dry sky', and 'An arrow without legs travels a thousand miles' kept the children laughing throughout.
One of the most popular activities was the historical storytelling corner, 'Protect Haengju! 12 Defense Operations', where participants solved missions to learn about the history of the Battle of Haengju.
This year's festival also featured a unique corner where participants could create their own 'AI general characters' after completing all missions, reflecting modern trends and engaging people of all ages.
Throughout the festival, high-quality performances captivated the audience, and traditional experiences enriched the event.
In terms of transportation, the festival organizers took great care to ensure a pleasant experience for visitors. Free shuttle buses ran frequently between Daegok Station and the festival venue, and additional city buses were deployed to accommodate the crowds.
Reflecting on the beautiful scenery of the Han River, I was reminded of the proud historical significance of the Battle of Haengju and the valuable cultural heritage of Haengju Sanseong. It was indeed a meaningful weekend.
I already look forward to seeing what the next Goyang Haengju Cultural Festival will bring!
