In the summer, people often seek foods that help replenish energy. One of the most popular dishes is Samgyetang (ginseng chicken soup).

Other notable summer dishes for revitalization include goat soup, loach soup, and eel.

Additionally, there are three days in summer known as 'boknal' (the hottest days of summer) when people frequently enjoy health foods.

I would like to introduce a traditional health food restaurant located in Danyang, Chungbuk.

The place I want to introduce is Boshingak in Danyang. It is located by the Namhan River in Byeolgok-ri, Danyang-eup.

It is close to several tourist attractions such as Danyang Gukgeun Market, Danuri Aquarium, Gosu Cave, and Dodamsambong, making it a great spot for dining during your travels.

The restaurant has certifications for being a model restaurant and for being a family-run business, indicating its tradition and quality.

There is a price list outside, allowing you to check the menu and prices before entering. Various awards from food competitions are displayed inside.

The interior of the restaurant is clean, with tables arranged in separate spaces, making it convenient for groups.

Let’s take a look at the menu at Boshingak.

The signature dish is black goat jeongol (hot pot), with options for boiled goat and soup as well.

There are also herbal duck soup with mushrooms, native chicken soup, and ginseng chicken soup, but reservations are required for the soups.

While waiting for the food, I noticed signatures from volleyball players and commentators on the walls.

Aprons are available in the hallway for anyone who needs one.

The basic side dishes include seasoned cucumber, diced radish, stir-fried zucchini, and young radish kimchi, which change slightly with the seasons and pair well with soups.

The stir-fried zucchini and seasoned cucumber are made with fresh seasonal ingredients, adding to their deliciousness and slightly spicy flavor, which whetted my appetite before the meal.

Soon after, the goat soup and ginseng chicken soup arrived. I had reserved the chicken soup for the children and ordered a small goat soup.

The chicken soup comes with a whole chicken in a stone pot, providing a generous portion for one adult, along with glutinous rice.

The ginseng chicken soup contains various herbal ingredients, and the saponins in ginseng help recover from fatigue and boost immunity.

The well-cooked chicken is tender and easy to shred, making it enjoyable to eat.

There’s quite a bit of porridge, and mixing the chicken with the porridge enhances the flavor.

The children enjoyed the chicken soup, especially when they added kimchi to the porridge, calling it delicious.

This is the goat soup with goat meat.

Goat meat warms the blood and strengthens the body. It also aids digestion and has a calming effect.

Historically, new mothers were given goat meat after childbirth to restore their strength quickly.

The goat soup contains goat meat, mung bean sprouts, and chives, and you can add perilla powder, seasoning, and Cheongyang peppers according to your taste.

The broth is light and clean, with no unpleasant odors, and dipping the goat meat in seasoning with perilla powder and garlic made it even more delicious.

After the meal, you can enjoy a light cup of coffee to refresh your palate.

Boshingak in Danyang offers a variety of health foods like goat soup, goat jeongol, boiled chicken, and ginseng chicken soup, suitable for all ages.

If you need health food during the hot summer, consider visiting Boshingak in Danyang.
