After more than 20 years of being left unused, part of Onyang Oncheon Station has been reborn as a new space for communication and collaboration.
The Chungnam Communication and Cooperation Space, Aurum, opened its doors with the goal of connecting citizens and government through open dialogue and shared ideas.
The opening ceremony marked not just the launch of a facility, but the beginning of a place designed to turn residents’ voices into real policy discussions.
A New Beginning at Onyang Oncheon Station
A revitalized space has emerged on the second floor of Onyang Oncheon Station in Asan-si, Chungcheongnam-do.
On December 23, 2025, the Chungnam Communication and Cooperation Space named Aurum officially opened, transforming a long-neglected area into a meaningful public venue.
From Abandoned Area to Multifunctional Space
Parts of Onyang Oncheon Station that had been unused for over two decades have now been redesigned into a flexible environment.
The space includes meeting rooms, maker spaces, and workation areas that can be freely used by citizens and organizations.
An Opening Ceremony Shared with the Community
The opening ceremony was attended by around 300 people, including government officials, local leaders, university representatives, civic groups, and residents.
Because the event was open to everyone, many citizens joined freely, creating a lively and celebratory atmosphere.
Key Figures and Program Highlights
The ceremony included an official opening declaration, national ceremonies, guest introductions, progress reports, and commemorative speeches.
Congratulatory remarks and a guided tour of the newly opened communication and cooperation space followed, allowing attendees to experience Aurum firsthand.
A Space Built on Dialogue, Not One-Way Communication
During the event, it was emphasized that Aurum is not a place for one-sided administrative explanations.
Instead, it is designed as a venue where citizens and government can listen to each other, discuss challenges, and work together toward solutions.
Turning Citizens’ Voices into Policy
There was a strong commitment expressed to ensure that ideas and opinions raised in this space would not remain symbolic.
The goal is for residents’ voices to be reflected meaningfully in policy-making processes.
Looking Ahead for Aurum
The Chungnam Communication and Cooperation Space is expected to continue evolving as a practical and useful place for everyday life.
Its rebirth represents more than renovation, serving as a bridge that connects citizens, communities, and policy decisions.
