Revitalizing Marine Ecosystems and Fisheries Resources in Sinan County

Sinan County is accelerating efforts to create a rich marine ecosystem and restore fisheries resources.
To enhance fisheries resources in the Diamond Sea area and increase the income of fishermen,
Sinan County has released 180,000 healthy juvenile rockfish.
On May 29, as part of the fisheries resource breeding and habitat creation project,
healthy juvenile rockfish were released into the Diamond Sea.
This initiative aims to contribute to sustainable marine development.
The released rockfish are healthy specimens measuring over 5 cm,
having passed all disease tests conducted by the National Fisheries Products Quality Management Service.
Notably, local fishing communities and fishermen participated in the on-board release,
adding significance to the fisheries resource creation project.
This release is part of a broader project that has been underway since 2022,
investing a total of 5 billion KRW over five years to create spawning and habitat areas.
To date, the project has included:
- Installation of 593 artificial reefs
- Release of 550,000 juvenile rockfish
- Transplantation of seaweed species such as kelp and sea lettuce
This has helped create an environment where marine life can thrive.
This year marks the final year of the project,
with an additional 210,000 juvenile rockfish scheduled for release in July.
Environmental improvement initiatives, including catch surveys and marine waste collection, will also be pursued.
Sinan County is actively promoting the creation of spawning and habitat areas for various fish species.
Current projects include:
- Creation of spawning and habitat areas for black rockfish in the Hado, Okdo, and Anjwa areas (2023-2027, 4 billion KRW)
- Creation of spawning and habitat areas for rockfish in the Amtae Chupo area (2026-2030, 4 billion KRW)
Efforts to restore and enhance fisheries resources in the Diamond Sea area are ongoing.
Since 2019, Sinan County has released a total of 2.18 million fish, including abalone, sea cucumbers, and rockfish,
installing 2,846 artificial reefs to foster a healthy marine ecosystem.
Going forward, Sinan County aims to create a stable environment for marine life,
secure abundant fisheries resources, and enhance the income of fishermen.
The goal is to develop the Diamond Sea area into a hub for sea fishing.
Through continuous efforts in fisheries resource creation and marine environmental improvement,
Sinan County is committed to building a rich marine environment and a sustainable marine ecosystem for future generations.
