When discarded, items become trash, but when properly sorted, they can become resources again.
At Nepron in Dangjin, I experienced recycling and even earned points!
I'm used to placing empty PET bottles and beverage cans into recycling bins after use.
But did you know there are vending machines that recognize cans and PET bottles using artificial intelligence and even reward you with points when you insert recyclables?
This is the recycling collection vending machine called Nepron.
Nepron is installed in various locations in Dangjin, allowing citizens to practice resource circulation in their daily lives.
I recently visited the Nepron located at the entrance of the Songak Culture and Sports Center and personally inserted PET bottles and cans.
Let me introduce you to the types of recyclables that can be inserted, how to use the machine, and the point accumulation process.
What is the Nepron recycling collection vending machine?
When you first see Nepron, its large vending machine appearance catches your eye.
While regular vending machines sell drinks or items, Nepron works in the opposite way by accepting recyclables we bring.
Nepron utilizes artificial intelligence and IoT technology to recognize, compress, and collect cans and transparent PET bottles.
When you insert recyclable materials into the machine, AI identifies the items and rewards you with points based on the type of recyclable.
This means that the PET bottles and cans you might have thrown away are given value as resources once again.
The primary purpose of Nepron is not just to reward points but to promote resource circulation.
The cans and transparent PET bottles we insert are compressed and stored inside the machine, and the collected recyclables are periodically picked up by specialized companies to be repurposed as new resources.
The process can be summarized as: Resource disposal → Nepron insertion → Recycling → Point issuance → Cash conversion.
This means that citizens can actively participate in the process of returning items to resources, which is a key feature of Nepron.
I personally used Nepron at the Songak Culture and Sports Center.
At first, it might seem a bit challenging to figure out how to use the machine, but following the instructions on the screen made it simpler than expected.
Before using Nepron, it’s essential to check whether the recyclables you bring can be inserted.
Not all plastics or cans can be inserted.
What can you insert into Nepron?
At the Nepron I used, only transparent PET bottles were accepted.
You earn 10 points for each transparent PET bottle.
Some Nepron machines can accept both transparent PET bottles and cans.
For reference, beverage cans earn 15 points each.
Since not all recyclables can be inserted, it’s crucial to know the proper disposal methods before visiting.
Preparing Transparent PET Bottles:
First, you need to prepare clear, colorless PET bottles.
Any beverage container, regardless of size, can be inserted as long as it has been used for drinks.
Make sure to empty the contents completely and remove the label.
Wash the inside and outside of the PET bottle with water.
There’s no need to forcibly remove the cap, as it could cause injury; just ensure the contents and foreign substances are cleanly removed.
What not to insert:
Even if they look like PET materials, some containers cannot be inserted into Nepron.
Children's drink bottles, shampoo containers, colored PET bottles, and disposable cups should not be inserted.
Also, PET bottles with labels still attached cannot be accepted.
It's easy to mistakenly think all clear plastics are transparent PET bottles.
Check for recycling symbols on the container to confirm it is labeled 'PET.'
Point Accumulation with Phone Number:
To earn points using Nepron, you will need to enter your mobile phone number.
After entering your number, you can check your current points and personal information.
Another interesting aspect of using Nepron is that the points you accumulate can be converted to cash.
You can convert points into cash once you accumulate more than 2,000 points.
By properly sorting recyclables instead of just throwing them away, you can earn points, which serves as a small motivation to participate in resource circulation.
Locations of Nepron in Dangjin:
You can find Nepron recycling collection machines in various locations in Dangjin, such as Eoreumsu Stream Park, Dangjin Fish Market, Dangjin Bus Terminal, Hanmaeum Park, and the first floor of the Dangjin Education Culture and Sports Center.
You can check the installation locations and availability of Nepron through the app 'Superbin' before your visit.
Recycling and Earning Points:
Using Nepron at the Songak Culture and Sports Center added a fun aspect of 'earning points' to the familiar act of recycling.
As you insert PET bottles and cans, AI determines their recyclability, and the collected resources are recycled again, allowing users to earn points, making it a practical way to participate in resource circulation while benefiting the environment.
If you have clean, sorted transparent PET bottles or beverage cans at home, consider visiting a nearby Nepron recycling collection machine in Dangjin to participate in resource circulation yourself.
Thank you :)
