Munbeom-ri Mulberry Tree Village Forest
There are times when we long for a complete break and the embrace of nature, escaping from our busy daily lives. The perfect place that draws the heart is the 'Goesan Munbeom-ri Mulberry Tree Village Forest' located in Chungbuk, Goesan. The cozy shade and lush green scenery created by trees that have stood for hundreds of years provide a calm yet profound comfort to visitors.
On a day filled with the freshness of early summer, I would like to share my vivid experience of strolling through this beautiful forest.
The path leading to the village forest serves as a healing route in itself. As I left the bustling city roads and entered the tranquil countryside of Goesan, the endless green fields and charming mountain ranges cleansed my eyes.
Walking along the neatly grown crops in the fields covered with protective film and the well-paved farm roads, I soon spotted a massive grove of trees in the distance.
At the end of the road, a blue sign reading 'Munbeom Mulberry Tree Village Forest National Forest Cultural Asset' clearly reminded me of the historical significance and value of this place.
Through a friendly information board at the forest entrance, I learned about its origins in detail. The Goesan Munbeom-ri Mulberry Tree Village Forest was established in 1716 by Hong Choi-han, a scholar of the Joseon Dynasty, when he was appointed as the governor of Goesan.
This forest has served as a windbreak between the village and the rice fields, enhancing the beauty of the landscape, and has been designated as a National Forest Cultural Asset due to its historical and cultural value.
The fact that mulberry trees over 300 years old have been a resting place for the villagers for so long made each tree and blade of grass feel even more precious.
As I stepped into the forest, the intense summer sunlight vanished, replaced by a cool and refreshing breeze enveloping my body. The thick and grand mulberry trunks spread their lush leaves to create a natural canopy.
Throughout the forest, I noticed carefully crafted spaces for visitors and villagers to rest comfortably. Sitting on a cozy wooden swing with a roof, nestled between the green grass and tree shade, felt like forgetting all the worries of the world.
In the center of the forest, there is a spacious wooden deck resembling a pavilion, perfect for laying out a mat and gazing at the sky, or engaging in light outdoor activities. The peaceful octagonal pavilion, showcasing natural wood tones, serves as an excellent resting spot to cool off from the sweat while feeling the gentle breeze.
What makes this forest even more attractive is that it is a space that gently integrates into the health and daily lives of the residents, rather than being a distant natural wonder. Benches are thoughtfully placed between the trees, allowing visitors to sit comfortably and enjoy the charming rural scenery, while outdoor exercise equipment is neatly arranged for a refreshing workout in the clean air.
If you wish to experience true 'rest' and 'emptiness' amidst the tranquility of nature, be sure to visit this hidden gem, the Mulberry Tree Village Forest in Goesan.
