As the weekend arrives, many seek to relieve the fatigue accumulated in daily life. Instead of traveling abroad, walking along beautiful trails that showcase the country's natural beauty is gaining attention. Among the vast 4,500 km pilgrimage route that circles the Korean Peninsula, the section connecting Gangjin, Haenam, and Mokpo in Jeollanam-do is particularly renowned for its stunning landscapes and convenient pathways.

This area is especially satisfying for travelers wanting to enjoy a peaceful retreat with their parents or couples looking for a romantic weekend date. It is an excellent choice for those wishing to escape the crowded tourist spots and experience the tranquility and significance of the southernmost inland region.

The historical space of Dasan Chodang, nestled at the foot of Manduk Mountain, is a key attraction here. This place, known for its wild tea trees, was where the scholar Jeong Yak-yong lived during his exile, achieving significant academic accomplishments. The 800m mountain path from Baekryeonsa to Dasan Chodang offers a simple yet profound atmosphere for contemplation. Walking the trail that follows the footsteps of figures who transcended the boundaries of scholar and monk allows one to naturally let go of the worries of everyday life and regain inner peace.

Upon entering Haenam, visitors can find Dosolam, a hermitage perched on a cliff surrounded by bizarre rock formations resembling stone walls. Due to its rugged terrain, vehicle access is impossible, preserving the untouched beauty of nature. On days when mist or clouds roll in over Dalma Mountain, it presents a surreal scene as if floating above a sea of clouds.

Moreover, the southernmost point of the Korean Peninsula, Daejeong Village, serves as a significant pilgrimage site. Walking along the wheelchair-accessible deck path, designed with gentle slopes for those with mobility issues, leads to a breathtaking transparent skywalk extending over the sea and a 9-meter tall symbolic triangular tower.

One of the major advantages of this route is that despite its impressive wellness infrastructure, the costs for visiting are low. Key viewing facilities, such as the accessible walking paths and skywalk, can be enjoyed without additional entrance fees, making it easy for everyone to appreciate the scenery.

Accommodations in nearby comprehensive leisure complexes are also excellent alternatives to unwind after hiking. Managed by the Korea Tourism Organization, this public building features 120 rooms, all designed with ocean views facing the West Sea, and includes an infinity pool that connects seamlessly with the horizon for a comfortable and convenient resting experience.

A day trip to explore the historical streets of modern Mokpo and Samhakdo is also recommended. Following the flow of the surrounding paths, various tourist attractions in the harbor city of Mokpo are closely connected. The area forms a compact layout of about 18.3 km, passing through the impressive modern historical cultural street adorned with red bricks, Peace Square, Gaba Rock, and Samhakdo Park, which holds the legend of three cranes.

As the outdoor facilities, forest paths, and coastal walkways require a leisurely stroll, wearing comfortable sneakers is essential. Rather than fixating on completing the entire route, it’s advisable to enjoy a relaxed walk during the weekend afternoon, cleansing away the fatigue accumulated over time.
