Exploring the Beauty of Gaesimsa Temple and Its Cherry Blossoms

Gaesimsa Temple, founded in 654 during the reign of King Uija, the 31st king of Baekje, is a temple with a rich history.
One of the unique features of Gaesimsa is that it attracts visitors every spring with its beautiful double cherry blossoms.
On the weekend of the 19th, the double cherry blossoms were in full bloom, showcasing their splendor.
With some branches yet to fully blossom, we hope for the most vibrant display this week, as long as it doesn't rain.
The area in front of the main hall was adorned with colorful lanterns for Buddha's Birthday, with the five-story stone pagoda, designated as Treasure No. 143, at its center.
Gaesimsa is also home to the rare green cherry blossoms, which can be seen in front of the main hall and the hall of the underworld, where the wooden Amitabha Buddha statue is located.
These blossoms transition between light green and yellow-green, symbolizing 'rare, quiet love, and mystery.'
One particular cherry blossom tree radiated a truly mystical color, resembling delicate new sprouts of spring rather than typical flowers. Upon closer inspection, the vibrant colors of the petals are captivating.
Unlike the cherry blossoms at Bulguksa, the double cherry trees are scattered throughout the temple grounds.
For photography enthusiasts, the passion to capture the beauty of Gaesimsa's double cherry blossoms was palpable.
Observing a cluster of blossoms resembling a handful brings a sense of healing.
The double cherry blossoms, characterized by their dozens of pink petals, enhance the serene atmosphere of the temple, especially around the stairs of Anyangru.
Due to the high number of visitors, arriving early is advisable if you wish to take photos with the cherry trees.
While most cherry blossoms have already fallen in many areas, the double cherry blossoms are just beginning to bloom.
Although there aren't many famous spots for double cherry blossoms, the one at Gaesimsa in Seosan, Chungcheongnam-do, is a notable exception.
If you need a break after walking to the temple, be sure to visit the temple's cafe, Dado Ban, for some tea. Ice cream was also available at the entrance due to the hot weather, and it was quite popular.
On May 24th, Buddha's Birthday (Buddhist Year 2570), this year's celebration slogan is "Let the heart be at peace, and the world in harmony." I look forward to visiting Gaesimsa again soon.
If you're feeling overwhelmed, remember you're not alone. Nearby attractions include the historic Haemi Eupseong and the Seosan Hanwoo Ranch Walking Trail. For more double cherry blossoms, consider visiting the nearby Munsusa Temple.
