Exploring the Baetti Sanctuary in Jincheon
Today, I would like to introduce Baetti Sanctuary, located in the deep mountains of Baekkok-myeon, Jincheon-gun, Chungbuk Province.
Baetti Sanctuary is known as an important site where one can encounter beautiful nature alongside the history of the Korean Catholic Church.
As you drive along the winding mountain roads, you will arrive at Baetti Sanctuary, which features a spacious parking area, befitting its status as a tourist attraction.
This sanctuary is historically significant as it served as a hiding place for Catholics during the Joseon Dynasty's persecution of Christians.
Unfortunately, pets are not allowed at Baetti Sanctuary, so please plan accordingly if you are traveling with dogs.
The sanctuary is open from 9 AM to 6 PM, and all areas within the site are smoke-free, alcohol-free, and cooking is prohibited.
Upon entering the sanctuary, I immediately felt a sense of tranquility and peace, surrounded by lush forests and mountains.
The church building is beautiful and well-known as a photo spot, blending harmoniously with the blue sky to create a majestic yet calm atmosphere.
Next to the church, there are a café, a religious goods shop, and an office, making it convenient to explore the area.
The café operates during the same hours as the sanctuary and features large windows that provide a great view of the surroundings.
At the entrance of the church, various notices regarding major events and outdoor Mass schedules can be found.
Mass is held at 11 AM on weekdays and Sundays, similar to the sanctuary's schedule. Please note that there is no Mass on Mondays due to regular closure.
Inside the church, a serene and solemn atmosphere prevails, allowing visitors to focus on prayer and meditation.
Each window features stained glass, with the light filtering through beautifully, adding to the sacred ambiance.
The high ceiling and neatly arranged space encourage visitors to calm their minds and concentrate on their reflections.
Even on the weekday I visited, I noticed two individuals quietly praying, prompting me to tread carefully.
The stained glass is not merely decorative; it carries deep meanings and stories of faith, making it feel even more special.
Visiting in the morning rather than the afternoon allows sunlight to illuminate the church more beautifully, filling it with a sacred atmosphere.
Baetti Sanctuary offers four pilgrimage routes, allowing visitors to choose paths that suit their time and physical ability.
These routes are not just simple walking paths; they allow one to reflect on the lives and faith of those who walked them in the past.
The trail through the forest is gentle, making it accessible for people of all ages.
