The Baekje Cultural Experience Museum I visited is a unique space created by renovating an old school building.
The transformation of the former school into a museum where history and culture coexist is truly captivating.
As soon as you enter the museum, you are greeted with various exhibitions themed around 'The History of Baekje and Baekje in Cheongyang.'
It's not just a space filled with artifacts; it is designed for visitors to see, hear, and experience the Baekje culture, making it an excellent place to visit with children.
The exhibitions on Baekje palace pottery, excavation sites, and pottery kilns were particularly impressive.
Listening to the friendly explanations from the guides made the time fly by, immersing me in the vibrant lifestyle of Baekje that I had only read about in textbooks.
On the second floor, the history of pottery is well displayed, offering insights into its evolution.
Another fun area is the Baekje costume experience zone and photo zone.
Visitors can try on historical costumes and take photos, which is especially popular among families and children.
It’s a space that allows for both historical learning and creating special memories.
The museum also features materials explaining the relationship between Cheongyang and Baekje, as well as a well-organized historical timeline from Unified Silla to Goryeo and Joseon, leading to present-day Cheongyang.
Local cultural heritage, including Janggoksa Temple, is also introduced, providing a comprehensive understanding of Cheongyang's history.
The Baekje Cultural Experience Museum is not just a space showing the past; it is a living history classroom where we learn about the wisdom, culture, and the sacrifices made by our ancestors to protect the nation.
What stood out to me the most was the story of the March 1st Movement in Cheongyang.
In 1919, thousands of citizens from various regions, including Un-gok, Jeong-san, and Nam-yang, raised torches and shouted for Korean independence, which was truly moving.
I learned that such a passionate history of the independence movement was hidden in this quiet rural village.
As you descend to the basement, you can experience nostalgic tales from the Newtro era at the Hong Sang-don Memorial Hall.
The museum has flexible viewing hours.
During the winter season (November to February), it operates from 9 AM to 5 PM, while in the summer (March to October), it runs from 9 AM to 6 PM, with closures on Mondays and major holidays.
The entrance fee is also quite affordable at 2,000 won for adults, making it a great family outing destination.
Cheongyang is not just a simple rural village.
