Recently, I visited Songgang Cultural Village in Munbaek-myeon, Jincheon. This place offers a glimpse into the life and literary works of Songgang Jeongcheol, a politician and literary figure from the Joseon Dynasty. You can explore the Jeongsonggangsa shrine dedicated to him, the Songgang Literary Museum where you can delve into his history and literature, and enjoy a cup of coffee at Cafe Songgang.

Upon entering the parking lot of Songgang Cultural Village, the first thing that catches your eye is a large protective tree, said to be around 350 years old. Its wide branches create a majestic presence, welcoming visitors with open arms.

Behind the protective tree, you can see the Hongsalmun gate, which symbolizes a sacred space. You can also find a Hongsalmun gate at the entrance of Jinchun Gilsangsa. After passing through this gate, you need to go through two more doors to reach Jeongsonggangsa.

I had heard about Jeongsonggangsa's fame in Jincheon for a long time, but I was curious why it was named 'Jeongsonggangsa.' The shrine itself is simply labeled 'Songgangsa.' Upon researching, I found out that 'Jeong' refers to Jeongcheol's surname, 'Songgang' is his pen name, and 'sa' means shrine. Therefore, it signifies the shrine of Songgang, a member of the Jeong family.

Inside Songgangsa, there is a tablet and portrait of Songgang Jeongcheol. Next to the portrait, I noticed a familiar phrase starting with 'Father, you gave birth to me, and Mother, you raised me.' This line is from Songgang Jeongcheol's . Although I was not very familiar with him, it was a pleasant surprise to learn that he was the author of such a well-known phrase. The short walk from the parking lot to the shrine was enjoyable, and the view from Songgangsa was truly beautiful.

After exploring Jeongsonggangsa, I entered the Songgang Literary Museum. Guided tours led by cultural tourism interpreters are available at 11:00 AM, 1:30 PM, and 3:00 PM. Initially, I thought Songgang Jeongcheol was born in Jincheon. However, I learned from the guide that he was neither born nor active in Jincheon, but his descendants established a connection with the area when they relocated his grave during the Joseon Dynasty. If you have the chance, I highly recommend joining a guided tour for fascinating stories that you won't get from just viewing the exhibits.

Songgang Jeongcheol was an important scholar and poet of the Joseon era, known for works like , , , and , which you may have encountered during Korean language classes.

The exhibition not only showcases Songgang Jeongcheol's life and works but also highlights the figures he interacted with and the historical context of his time. There is a space that connects nature and literature, offering a calm atmosphere that left a strong impression.

On the basement level, there is a reading space where you can relax or read a book, accompanied by soft music that creates a pleasant atmosphere for reading.

There is also a cafe on the first floor, making it a great spot to enjoy a cup of coffee after exploring the exhibits. The open space extends to the second floor, creating a relaxed and tranquil cafe environment.

If you are looking for a quiet walking trail or a light driving course in Jincheon, I recommend Songgang Cultural Village. Despite being a well-maintained space, it seems not many people are aware of it, which is a bit disappointing. Even if you are not familiar with Songgang Jeongcheol, visiting Songgang Cultural Village for a leisurely walk, some sightseeing, and a cup of coffee would be a delightful experience.
