Must-Visit Places in Goesan County
As early summer arrives, the potato harvesting season begins in earnest.
In Gammul-myeon, Goesan County, a festival celebrating the region's representative agricultural product, potatoes, is held during this time.
This year marks the 15th Gammul Potato Festival, which took place from June 12 to 14, 2026, at the Gammul-myeon Rural Center.
Upon entering the festival grounds, the first thing that caught my eye was the area filled with various food stalls.
Visitors could taste a variety of dishes made from potatoes, ranging from crispy potato pancakes to chewy potato rice cakes, creating a lively atmosphere.
The festival also featured a sales area where attendees could purchase fresh potatoes directly.
Gamul-myeon is known for its quality potatoes, thanks to its clean natural environment and significant temperature differences.
Gamul potatoes are loved by many consumers for their firm texture, excellent storage qualities, and fluffy consistency.
Many people flocked to the sales area to buy freshly harvested potatoes at reasonable prices.
In addition to on-site purchases, shipping orders were also available, with visitors often seen ordering multiple boxes.
I also bought a box to enjoy at home.
Besides potatoes, the festival showcased various agricultural specialties representative of Goesan.
One standout was the fresh shiitake mushrooms.
Goesan produces high-quality shiitake mushrooms due to its pristine nature and clear waters.
The freshly harvested mushrooms, with their rich aroma and excellent texture, attracted much attention.
Additionally, several stalls offered various dried vegetables.
Visitors could find a diverse selection of vegetables, including chili leaves, wild greens, mulberry leaves, and even broccoli side shoots, which are usually hard to come by.
These products, made from ingredients grown in Goesan's nature, felt particularly trustworthy.
The experience programs were also very popular among families.
The potato character-making experience, where children could draw faces on potatoes and decorate them, brought endless laughter.
It was a great way to create memorable moments.
The shiitake mushroom pizza-making experience was equally intriguing.
Participants topped fresh shiitake mushrooms with cheese and toppings to create mini pizzas, which they could taste immediately.
The unique deep aroma of shiitake mushrooms added a different charm compared to regular pizzas.
Another must-try was the potato dumplings, made by kneading grated potatoes into round shapes and boiling them.
Their chewy texture and mild broth flavor left a lasting impression.
In addition to food and experiences, there were also exhibition programs.
Artwork themed around Gamul potatoes, created by local residents and students, showcased affection for potatoes and stories from the region.
The outdoor stage featured various performances and events.
During my visit, the awards ceremony for the Gamja Village Singing Contest was taking place, adding to the festive atmosphere.
After exploring the Gammul Potato Festival, my hands were full of fresh agricultural products from Goesan.
It was a meaningful time to enjoy delicious food, diverse experiences, and local specialties all in one place.
I felt the freshness of early summer and had a delightful experience discovering the charm of Goesan.
