Must-Visit Places in Goesan County
Goesan Veterans Park, surrounded by beautiful pine forests, is a place that embodies the spirit of national defense and the stunning landscapes of Goesan.
Located in Goesan-eup, Goesan County, Chungcheongbuk-do, the park serves as a meaningful space for memorial and education, honoring the noble sacrifices of those who dedicated their lives for the nation and instilling a sense of patriotism and national identity in future generations.
The park features grand monuments, intricate sculptures, and even displays of actual combat equipment, making it a solemn yet friendly park where citizens can come to relax.
Upon entering Goesan Veterans Park, visitors are immediately captivated by the towering monuments reaching toward the sky. Each stone and tower reflects the heroic footprints of those who defended the nation during significant events in modern Korean history.
At the heart of the park stands the grand 'Chungwon Tower,' dedicated to honoring the spirits of the fallen heroes who sacrificed their lives for the country and its people. The tower is supported by a base shaped like sharp yet soft wings, with 'Chungwon Tower' prominently inscribed on the front.
In front of the tower, there is an altar for offering flowers, allowing visitors to pay their respects with reverence.
The park also features the Korean War Memorial, honoring the sacrifices and contributions of local veterans who fought in the Korean War. Each year, the park serves as a site for memorial services and flower offerings on Memorial Day and during National Defense Month.
The Vietnam War Memorial commemorates the veterans who ventured into foreign battlefields to protect world peace and freedom. A tall main tower adorned with the Taeguk symbol harmonizes with a modern semi-circular sculpture surrounding it, while the names of the veterans and their units are inscribed on the base, ensuring their dedication is never forgotten.
The Distinguished Service Medal Monument honors the heroes from Goesan who received military honors for their exceptional service in battle. This monument features a black stone tablet embedded between two sharply rising pillars, with the medal's emblem elegantly engraved at the top.
The O-Yongsa Tower commemorates five national heroes who sacrificed themselves to save comrades or turn the tide of battle during military service. The bronze statues of these five warriors, depicted in heroic poses with rifles and pistols, are meticulously crafted to life size.
The Chungyeol Tower was established to honor the noble spirits of independence activists and fallen heroes from the Goesan region who dedicated their lives to the country's independence and freedom. It was newly constructed in 2012 when Goesan County developed the Veterans Park.
Another significant aspect of Goesan Veterans Park is its geographical location. Situated on a hill, visitors can enjoy a panoramic view of Goesan-eup after leisurely exploring the park.
