Expansion of Dementia-Friendly Communities in Dangjin City

As our society rapidly ages, interest in healthy and safe aging has never been higher. Dementia has become a significant challenge that must be addressed not just by the patients themselves, but also by their families and the community at large.
In line with this trend, Dangjin City is expanding its robust local care safety net, allowing dementia patients and their families to live with peace of mind. We are excited to announce that Cheonyeon 1-ri and Cheonyeon 2-ri in Jeongmi-myeon have recently been designated as the 3rd and 4th 'Dementia-Friendly Villages', respectively.
For those unfamiliar, a 'Dementia-Friendly Village' is a community designed to ensure that dementia patients and their families are not isolated or marginalized. Instead, they can live safely and freely within their familiar neighborhoods, supported by the care and concern of their neighbors.
The core of this initiative is to create a 'local care community' where all village residents have a correct understanding of dementia and look out for one another.
Cheonyeon 1-ri and Cheonyeon 2-ri have a high proportion of elderly residents, making the need for dementia management particularly pronounced. They have also been recognized for their existing infrastructure, health centers, and local organizations that can successfully support and sustain a dementia-friendly village.
Following a thorough analysis, Cheonyeon 1-ri was designated as the 3rd and Cheonyeon 2-ri as the 4th Dementia-Friendly Village, further enriching Dangjin City's welfare landscape.
As dementia-friendly villages, Cheonyeon 1-ri and 2-ri will receive extensive support for various customized programs and environments that encompass everything from dementia prevention to care.
Educational programs will be conducted for village residents to break down prejudices, and 'Dementia-Friendly Partners' will be appointed, including stores and safety monitors. A system will also be implemented to help neighbors recognize and assist elderly dementia patients who may be lost, guiding them safely back home.
To prevent accidents while walking, the village will address potential hazards, and safety measures such as installing gas valve timer cocks and providing anti-slip mats will be implemented in homes of dementia patients.
Dementia is no longer a disease to be hidden or a burden to bear alone. When our neighbors look at us with warmth and local governments back us with strong systems, we can truly create a 'livable city'.
We hope that the designation of Cheonyeon 1-ri and 2-ri as Dementia-Friendly Villages will spread warmth and care throughout Dangjin City. We encourage everyone to support and pay attention to this new beginning in Cheonyeon 1-ri!
