When planning a trip to Busan, most people first think of Haeundae or Gwangalli, but there is a coastal attraction that has recently gained immense popularity among travelers. After being shrouded in mystery for nearly a generation, it has emerged as a new must-visit spot in Busan, captivating countless visitors.
This place offers a unique experience of walking directly into the blue sea. With its open panoramic views and thrilling sea walking experience, it has become a highly satisfying destination for office workers seeking relaxation or couples on a date during the weekends.
The Songdo Yonggung Cloud Bridge, connecting Dongseom from Amnam Park in Busan, has made a stunning comeback after an 18-year hiatus. Once lost to a typhoon, it has been reborn as a modern suspension pedestrian bridge, proving its worth by surpassing 2.2 million visitors in just five years.
Measuring 127 meters in length and 2 meters in width, this bridge hangs about 20 meters above sea level. With an incredibly low entry fee of just 1,000 won, visitors can enjoy some of South Korea's best coastal scenery without any financial burden.
The bridge's most significant charm lies in its entire walkway being constructed with a steel mesh. Each step reveals crashing waves below, giving visitors the exhilarating sensation of walking on water.
Standing at the center of the bridge or at the viewing spots, you can take in breathtaking views of the rugged cliffs, the sandy beach of Songdo, the soaring cable cars, and the sleek city skyline. While every corner is a photo opportunity, be cautious as the bridge may sway slightly when strong sea breezes blow, so manage your belongings carefully.
For a smooth visit and ample photo opportunities, it is highly recommended to come in the morning before the crowds arrive. The bridge is open from 9 AM to 6 PM during the summer months (March to September), with the last entry at 5:30 PM, so plan your schedule accordingly.
However, it is closed on the first and third Mondays of each month and on holidays. Access may also be restricted during heavy rain, snow, or strong winds for safety reasons. Families with strollers or wheelchairs should check official guidelines before visiting.
After exploring the cloud bridge, the most efficient route is to combine your visit with the nearby Songdo Marine Cable Car. This ride covers approximately 1.62 km, allowing you to enjoy aerial views of the coastline you just walked along.
Linking the Songdo Beach, the first public beach in Korea, with the trails of Amnam Park creates a perfect half-day outing. On sunny days, consider a weekend trip to Busan's Seo-gu with loved ones for a refreshing escape.
