The Miwon Byeolbit Nature Recreation Forest, located on the picturesque foothills of Cheongju, is undergoing a transformation into a comprehensive forest spot that combines diverse amenities with business spaces. The official opening is set for July 2026.
During its recent trial operation, the facility attracted over 13,000 reservations with only 10 rooms available, generating significant buzz. It features a workation facility that allows guests to enjoy both work and relaxation amidst the lush forest, making it a focal point for travelers seeking new healing destinations.
The reason for the heightened interest in this location lies in its unique infrastructure, which offers a blend of accommodation, work, and leisure, all perfectly insulated from urban noise. Beyond simple lodging, it boasts seminar rooms, restaurants, cafes, and galleries, creating a robust multi-use space.
Designated as a public project by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, the workation center has received an investment of 1.8 billion won and is fully equipped with individual and shared office spaces and meeting rooms. This makes it an excellent alternative for professionals looking to refresh while working, as well as for corporate training sessions.
The Miwon Byeolbit Nature Recreation Forest is the second public leisure site directly operated by the city of Cheongju, having been purchased from private management. Following the Okwha Nature Recreation Forest, the city has lowered access barriers while preserving the original forest bathing areas and gentle walking paths across the expansive 100,000-pyeong site.
In addition to the 20 existing forest houses, a 'Healing House' with private accommodation units, hot tubs, and outdoor foot baths is slated for completion by the end of 2026, promising even more attractions over time.
Entry fees are set reasonably to ease visitors' financial burdens. For a four-person single-story room, rates start at 100,000 won on weekdays during the off-peak season and 150,000 won on weekends and peak seasons. There are also duplex and group accommodations available for family trips.
Cheongju citizens can enjoy discounts of 30% on weekdays during the off-peak season and 10% on weekends and peak times, while individuals with disabilities or national merit can receive up to 50% off on weekdays. Reservations can be made through the Forest Service's integrated platform, 'Sooknadel,' with a monthly lottery system for weekends, so checking the schedule in advance is recommended.
Located about 40 to 50 minutes by car from downtown Cheongju, the forest is ideal for day trips or overnight stays. Nearby attractions include the Midongsan Arboretum and Okwha Valley, making it easy to combine visits to these pristine natural sites.
In the future, a 10 km forest trekking course is planned to connect these attractions with the recreation forest. Given the anticipated high demand for reservations after the official opening, it's advisable to explore the surrounding walking paths early in the morning.
