Discovering the Hidden Healing Spot: Dongho Forest in Geochang

Hello! Today, I want to share my experience visiting a hidden healing spot located in Wungyang-myeon, Geochang-gun, Gyeongsangnam-do: the 'Dongho Forest' (Dongho Traditional Village Forest).
This place is filled with the refreshing aroma of phytoncides from dense pine and zelkova trees, making it a perfect spot for a leisurely walk. Shall we explore together?
???? What is Dongho Forest?
Surrounded by Deogyusan National Park, Gayasan National Park, and Jirisan National Park, Geochang's Dongho Forest boasts stunning scenery and is a pride of Dongho Village.
Location: 1069 Dongho-ri, Wungyang-myeon, Geochang-gun, Gyeongsangnam-do
Main Tree Species: Pine, Quercus variabilis, Zelkova, etc.
Features: Designated as a National Forest Cultural Asset and a Forest Genetic Resource Protection Area.
???? A Historical Tidbit!
It is said that the village created this protective forest (Bibo-rim) to enhance the geomantic energy of the area. It embodies a long history of protecting and cherishing the village.
As soon as you enter the parking lot, vibrant orange daylilies greet you at the entrance, brightening your mood from the moment you arrive!
The 'National Forest Cultural Asset Information Board and Dongho Forest Comprehensive Information Board' clearly marks the locations of walking trails, outdoor stages, restrooms, and parking areas.
There is also a cute photo zone! With the phrase "Beautiful and Heartwarming Dongho Village" along with a grape character representing Wungyang-myeon and a lovely flower-shaped frame, it’s perfect for capturing beautiful memories!
Winding Pine Tree Path ????️
Walking along the Dongho Forest trail, you will be delighted by the majestic pine trees that grow tall and gracefully, creating a picturesque scene.
The well-maintained dirt paths and paved roads ensure that couples, families, and seniors can comfortably enjoy their stroll.
I highly recommend sitting on the benches nestled in the forest, listening to the sound of the wind, and enjoying the tranquility!
A Colorful Wildflower Paradise Every Season ????????
The Dongho Forest trail is also a vibrant path adorned with various wildflowers.
The charming tiger lilies with black spots and the bright orange daylilies illuminate the forest beautifully.
In autumn, the trail will be covered in flowers, but right now, lush green leaves blanket the ground like a carpet. The long leaves sway in the wind, exuding vitality, making the absence of flowers still captivating.
As I walked through the pine forest, I spotted purple daylilies peeking through the green leaves, adding a delightful touch to the scenery! ????✨
Amidst the green grass spread out under the pine trees, clusters of purple daylilies and delicate anemones create a picturesque landscape.
At the entrance of Dongho Forest, a restoration monument commemorates the history of conservation, noting that in 2013, the Korea Forest Service and Geochang County planted pine trees and restored the lower forest to revive the beauty of the traditional village forest.
Dongho Forest is not only a natural wonder but also well-equipped with amenities for visitors, ensuring a comfortable visit.
Spacious parking and clean restrooms: The entrance features ample parking space and well-maintained restrooms, making it a great stop during a drive.
Insect repellent sprayers & foot wash area: Before walking the forest paths, you can use the electric sprayer for insect repellent, ensuring peace of mind even in summer. There’s also a clean area to dust off shoes and wash feet after your walk.
???? The 'Chung-yo (忠孝) Monument' Adding to the Forest's Charm
On one side of the trail, the 'Chung-yo (忠孝) Monument' stands quietly amidst the refreshing pine forest, offering another sight to behold.
Engraved with the characters for loyalty (忠) and filial piety (孝), the monument features verses that evoke the spirit of these values, allowing visitors to feel the noble intentions of their ancestors and the village's long heritage.
