What Is the Digital Shinan Cultural Encyclopedia?
📜 Explore the history and culture of Shinan County
with the newly opened ‘Digital Shinan Cultural Encyclopedia’ website
which officially opened on January 2.
This website is a regional cultural digital archive created by Shinan County
in collaboration with the Academy of Korean Studies.
Project Background and Scale
It has been in preparation since May 2023,
making it the 120th completed project nationwide.
The content is quite substantial.
Content Categories Covered
It covers geography, history, cultural heritage,
surnames and notable figures, politics, economy, society,
religion, culture, education, lifestyle, folklore,
oral traditions, language, and literature,
organized into a total of nine distinct categories.
Researchers and Archive Scale
More than 100 researchers from local research institutions and cultural organizations
have participated in writing and reviewing the content.
With over 1,300 entries and more than 2,800 images,
the website is easily accessible on both PC and mobile devices.
Highlight: Capturing the Present of Shinan
Especially noteworthy is the curated content
that captures the ‘now’ of Shinan County.
From the ‘One Province, One Museum’ policy
to the picturesque seasonal landscapes,
various seafood festivals, and the UN-recognized
Purple Island as a top tourist village,
as well as community benefit-sharing models utilizing solar and offshore wind energy,
the current state of Shinan is vividly portrayed.
Future Use and Value
Shinan County aims to preserve local cultural records digitally
and plans to utilize this resource broadly for tourism and educational purposes.
