Seokchon Lake in Jamsil offers a quiet and romantic walking course, especially during the calm winter season.
Surrounded by the city’s landmarks yet filled with stillness, the lake provides a rare moment of peace in central Seoul.
With the Luminary Festival adding gentle light installations, a simple walk here becomes a memorable winter experience.
A Winter Walk Around Seokchon Lake
This winter, I revisited Seokchon Lake and took time to slowly walk along its path.
Unlike spring blossoms or autumn foliage, winter brings a quiet air that wraps gently around the lake.
From the moment I entered, a sense of calm settled in.
The History Hidden Beneath the Lake
The northern area of Seokchon Lake, once called Jamsilbeol, used to be part of the Han River.
Over time, sediment formed artificial islands, and waterways such as the Songpa River and Sincheon River developed.
In 1969, river maintenance projects reclaimed most tributaries, leaving only sections that eventually became today’s lake.
Songpa Naru Park and the Surroundings
Songpa Naru Park is divided into eastern and western sections by Songpa-daero.
On the western side, Lotte World’s Magic Island adds a playful contrast to the calm lake scenery.
If time allows, the nearby attractions naturally tempt visitors to extend their walk.
Where the City Meets Stillness
One of Seokchon Lake’s greatest charms is its location in the heart of Seoul.
Right beside the lake rises Lotte World Tower, standing tall against the winter sky.
The contrast between the bustling cityscape and the quiet water creates a uniquely balanced view.
A Peaceful Walk Without the Crowds
Despite the cold air, the lack of crowds made the walk feel even more relaxed.
Each step felt lighter, and simply watching the water brought a quiet sense of relief.
This harmony between extraordinary city scenery and gentle calm is what makes Seokchon Lake special.
Seokchon Lake Luminary Festival
During my visit, banners for the Luminary Festival were already visible around the lake.
The festival, themed Love & Dream Forever, runs from October 31, 2025, to February 28, 2026.
It takes place on both the eastern and western sides of Seokchon Lake.
Photo Spots and Night Views
The Luminary Tunnel and the main gate are especially popular photo spots.
Even during the day, imagining the illuminated night scenery adds a sense of anticipation.
Visiting before the festival ends in February is highly recommended.
A Walk That Gently Soothes the Heart
Even a short walk around Seokchon Lake has the power to calm the mind.
I found myself already looking forward to returning for a moonlit stroll.
If you are searching for a romantic and quiet date spot in Jamsil, this lake remains a reliable choice.
