Chungju, Chungcheongbuk-do, is a region known for its beautiful natural landscapes and diverse tourist attractions.

Notably, many of these attractions are related to water.

Despite being an inland region without a sea, Chungju boasts stunning rivers and lakes around Chungju Lake, including Jungangtap Park, Tangeumdae, Sujupalbong, and Mokgye Port.

Consequently, it's home to many freshwater fish, and the recently opened Chungju Aquarium offers a great opportunity to see them up close.

Having opened about a month ago, the aquarium is garnering much attention. It's filled with various experiences and sights that families can enjoy, making it perfect for trips with children.

Chungju Aquarium opened on October 25, 2025, and was built with a large budget of 14.3 billion won.

It showcases an impressive 73 species and 2,400 creatures.

The aquarium is closed every Monday and is open from 10 AM to 6 PM on all other days.

Currently, admission is free, allowing anyone to visit without any financial burden.

Inside, you'll find a diverse range of aquatic life, and outside, there are even animals, making it an ideal destination for families. Plus, there's a spacious parking lot for convenient parking.

Located within Tangeum Park's Neungam Wetland Ecological Park, the Chungju Aquarium is close to Chungju Lake and Tangeumdae, making it a great place to enjoy the beautiful surrounding scenery.

Wheelchairs and strollers are available for rent, and the facility is equipped with nursing rooms, elevators, and luggage storage, making it an excellent barrier-free travel destination.

Inside the aquarium, you'll find not only various aquatic creatures but also photo zones for travelers.

From the photo zone where you can take pictures with the cute Chungju otter character at the entrance to symbolic photo spots featuring Chungju's representative tourist destinations like Mokgye Port and Jungangtap Pagoda, it's a great place to capture travel memories.

The exhibition hall, spanning one basement level and three above-ground floors, offers a variety of attractions, from Chungju's freshwater fish to freshwater fish from around the world, amphibians from around the world, a rainforest exhibit, large sturgeons, and an outdoor zoo experience zone.

The aquarium exhibition hall fosters children's curiosity about living things and provides opportunities to learn about the importance of the ecosystem through experiences that promote communication with nature.

You can vividly see fish swimming freely in transparent acrylic tanks, and the underwater tunnel, which makes you feel like you're walking underwater, amazes visitors of all ages.

In addition to simply viewing, there are also hands-on experience zones. The zone where you can put your own drawn fish into a tank on the screen is very popular, and it's an even more special experience if you write your name on the fish.

In the outdoor zoo, you can meet raccoons and rabbits, and soon, you'll be able to see otters and capybaras as well, so there's much to look forward to.

From large fish like sturgeon that are hard to come by to Chungju's representative food, trout, and colorful tropical fish from around the world.

The Chungju Aquarium offered a chance to see a variety of freshwater fish, and being indoors, it was nice to look around warmly regardless of the weather.
