On Saturday, September 5th, the 2026 78th Chungcheongnam-do Sports Festival held mountain, wrestling, and judo events throughout Myeoncheon.

I arrived at the venue around 10:30 AM, where an unusually large number of athletes and spectators filled the area, with cheers echoing from each stadium, creating a lively atmosphere.

The festival took place from September 3rd to 6th in the city of Dangjin, featuring 15 teams from Chungnam competing in 32 different sports across 37 venues.

In Myeoncheon, the mountain events were held in front of Myeoncheon Fortress, while wrestling took place at the outdoor arena, and judo matches occurred at Myeoncheon Middle School's Mongsan Hall.

As nature, history, and local spaces transformed into venues, Myeoncheon felt like one grand sports stage.

The mountain competition started at 8 AM at Ami Mountain. Although I missed the start, I witnessed athletes arriving at the finish line around 12:30 PM. Their expressions reflected both exhaustion and pride for completing the race.

I also saw athletes waiting for their teammates, cheering each other on. Unlike events held in designated arenas, mountain sports require direct engagement with natural terrain.

This event demanded not only physical strength but also focus and perseverance, evident in the athletes' determination as they crossed the finish line, met with cheers and applause.

Wrestling matches took place in front of Myeoncheon Fortress, where a sandy arena was set up, transforming the historic site into a vibrant sports venue.

The backdrop of Myeoncheon Fortress added a special charm to the traditional sport of wrestling.
