As summer arrives, the midday heat can be felt, but the cool sea breeze in the morning and evening makes it a perfect time for a stroll.
Dangjin City is located by the sea, boasting beautiful ports like Hanjin Port, Anseom Port, Maetdol Port, and Janggo Port, each with its own charm.
Today, we will introduce 'Hanjin Port' and the 'Coastal Deck Trail' located in Hanjin-ri, Songak-eup, Dangjin City, as part of a delightful travel course.
Hanjin Port, the gateway to the east of Dangjin, breathes history and romance.
Traveling to Dangjin is always refreshing and enjoyable, and I visited Hanjin Port in Hanjin-ri, Songak-eup.
Hanjin Port is located in the northeast of Dangjin and was a significant ferry port used by merchants and envoys during the Baekje period. It is the origin of Dangjin's name and was known as Jaejin Port during the Joseon Dynasty.
Its proximity to the Songak I.C. of the West Coast Expressway makes it easily accessible, attracting many visitors from the metropolitan area.
Before the construction of the Asan seawall, passenger ferries used to operate to Incheon Port, and during the Japanese occupation, it served as a port for transporting trout roe to Japan.
Rich in history, it is also mentioned in the novel 'Sangnok-su' by Sim Hun, showcasing its diversity.
Currently, there are many restaurants and cafes that prepare fish caught from the nearby sea.
The Hanjin Port fish market offers a variety of seafood, including sashimi and clams, and is open from 7 AM to 7 PM, closing on the first and third Mondays of the month.
In recent years, various seafood was sold under umbrellas, and a spacious parking lot was created alongside the newly built fish market.
Famous for clams, Hanjin Port hosts a clam festival and offers various seafood products.
Walking along the coastal deck trail provides a pleasant stroll with scenic views, and the observatory offers a backdrop for stunning sunrises, making it a favorite spot for photographers.
After enjoying a meal at a restaurant in Hanjin Port, walking along the deck allows you to appreciate the beauty of Hanjin Port.
As you walk slowly, you can encounter the beautiful scenery around you, with lookout points facing the sea for a moment of respite.
While walking here, you can enjoy the peaceful views of Hanjin Port and the surrounding sea.
Taking a moment to look around from the observatory is also rewarding, as you can spot boats entering and leaving Dangjin Port and fishing vessels at work.
Along the deck, witty phrases and sculptures reflecting Dangjin's character can be found, adding a delightful touch to the experience.
As you walk along the seaside, you might see herons leisurely foraging and seagulls hunting for food.
The central area features a large sculpture, providing a nice spot to take a break.
Walking here, you can encounter both locals and tourists strolling along the deck, and on the left side of the deck, the cliffs and greenery create a calming atmosphere.
Continuing along the coastal deck, it eventually connects to a park where you can also enjoy a leisurely walk.
The nearby Gogaeji District Neighborhood Park offers a resting area with a view of the sea, perfect for a moment of relaxation.
Here, you can see wild roses and other flowers blooming and after a stroll, return to Hanjin Port.
At a restaurant in Hanjin Port, you can enjoy sashimi or seafood noodles, enhanced by the addition of clams.
Walking back from the Hanjin Port parking lot to the neighborhood park takes about 30 minutes.
Walking along the wooden deck while enjoying the sea, the mountains on the left, and the sculptures along the deck is a delightful experience.
The area hosts an annual clam mudflat experience festival, attracting many food enthusiasts who come to enjoy delicious clam noodles and pancakes.
You can also see boats docked on one side of the port, resting before heading out to catch fish.
Currently, Hanjin Port offers a variety of seafood, including shrimp, mackerel, eel, red snapper, scallops, and clams.
After exploring this area, it is also nice to visit nearby Anseom Port, known for its evergreen trees and the red lighthouse, just a 5-minute drive away.
