A Day Filled with Family Fun in Yesan, Chungnam

Exploring on Foot at the National Leisure Camping Site

In Yesan, Chungnam, there is a camping site that has become widely known among family travelers: the 'Yesan National Leisure Camping Site' operated directly by the Yesan County. It is uniquely situated beside the Yeongdong Lake, with the mountains providing a scenic backdrop.

The site consists of 26 auto camping spots equipped with cooking areas, communal sinks, restrooms, showers, and electrical facilities. The ground is entirely covered in grass, allowing for the entry of personal trailers and caravans.

The fee is 30,000 KRW during peak seasons and weekends, while it is 20,000 KRW on weekdays during off-peak seasons. Reservations can be made online through the official website.

This visit was prompted by an invitation. Initially, I had some preconceived notions about camping facilities, but despite it being a weekend, staff members were stationed throughout the area, maintaining a pleasant environment.

Parking attendants at the entrance of Yeongdong Lake efficiently managed vehicles, making movement easy.

Interestingly, there were very few insects despite the camping site being adjacent to the mountains. It turns out that regular disinfection is conducted every Thursday, ensuring that management extends even to unseen areas.

The mountain breeze brought a refreshing chill, making it comfortable for the children to play without sweating much, even on a sunny day. Campfires using charcoal are also permitted, but caution is advised due to the proximity to the forest.

After a restful day at the campsite, we headed towards the suspension bridge in the late afternoon. The Yeongdong Lake suspension bridge, viewed from a distance, appeared much larger and more majestic than in photos. This suspension bridge, designed to resemble a stork spreading its wings, stands 64 meters tall and is 402 meters long.

Since its opening, it has welcomed over 9 million visitors and has been recognized as one of the '100 Must-Visit Tourist Attractions in Korea' by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korea Tourism Organization. Entrance to the bridge and public parking is free.

The musical fountain, which dances to the rhythm of music, captivated the children instantly. The mist from the fountain created rainbows in the distance, and we found ourselves dancing along whenever a familiar song played.

If you enjoyed the suspension bridge and the fountain, don't miss the monorail. It operates on a ticket-based system available at the site. It is recommended to purchase tickets before exploring other facilities.

The Yeongdong Lake monorail is a scenic ride that circulates 1,320 meters along the lakeside for about 22 minutes. It runs approximately every 12 minutes on weekdays and every 8 minutes on weekends and holidays. Riding in the evening offers a unique experience with a cool breeze as you circle the mountain ridge.

The park features a wish board, where visitors can add their own wishes alongside those of others. The recently opened observation deck across the street is also worth visiting. This 70-meter tall facility, which opened in May 2025, boasts a curved design resembling Yesan's signature apples. Taking the elevator to the observation deck provides a panoramic view of the entire Yeongdong tourist area.

While I was satisfied with the view from the bridge during this visit, I plan to make it to the observation deck on my next trip.

Stepping away from the tall buildings of the city and into this serene place surrounded by mountains and lakes brings peace to the heart. The leisurely daytime at the campsite, the thrill of the suspension bridge, the joy from the musical fountain, and the refreshing ride on the monorail make Yeongdong Tourist Area a perfect destination for families to fill their day with memorable experiences.
