Daejeon Bread Festival 2025: A Delicious Celebration!

The Daejeon Bread Festival 2025 is back!
This year's slogan: Bread for Everyone, City for Everyone.
2025 Bread Festival!! DAEJEON
Walking along the road from Daejeon Station, it feels like all the delicious bread is gathered in one place.
My friends say the best time to visit is around dusk when the lights along the Daedongcheon Stream turn on.
But if you go too late...
The bread you want might be sold out...
Some places sell out in just an hour!!

As a Daejeon resident,
there's no bakery I can't visit if I set my mind to it haha.
I'll try to look around without standing in too many lines,
and buy bread from places that are relatively less crowded!
I'll list all 102 participating bakeries
at the very bottom!!
Highly Recommend Using Public Transportation!
As always,
I recommend using public transportation rather than driving
for events held in downtown Daejeon!
Some roads in the downtown area
will be closed during the event,
so it's better to take the subway or bus than drive.
Even after big events,
I've never had trouble getting on public transport due to overcrowding.
Daejeon only needs one subway line, so cute...
+
There's also some sweet news
that they'll be operating a free shuttle bus!
The route will be announced soon,
so it seems like it would be good to use that too!
I'll update it as soon as it's released-
Daejeon also has a Kalguksu (noodle soup) Festival
lol
When I first heard about it,
I was like, "Huh? A festival with bread and kalguksu?"
Baking classes using local agricultural products,
outdoor performances,
new product tasting sessions,
and even SNS 인증 events
There are so many things to see and do,
it has really become a real festival.
Last year, about 200,000 people visited over the two days,
so I wonder if even more will come this year?
Why did Daejeon become the City of Bread?
Let's take a look at why Daejeon is called the City of Bread!
Daejeon was originally the center of railway transportation.
It was a logistics hub connecting Seoul, Busan, and Gwangju,
so naturally, flour mills and flour distribution networks gathered,
and the bakery industry quickly took root in that flow.
Bread Festival is a regular in picture books lol
The place that appeared at that time
is Sungsimdang!
During the war,
a small bakery that started with two bags of flour
has now become a symbol of Daejeon.
Bread that you can only eat in Daejeon
That exclusivity seems to have become the city's identity.
Thanks to that, the phrase "Daejeon, City of Bread" was created,
and now Daejeon bakeries are springing up one after another.
Local bakeries that everyone knows
participate with their own unique colors,
and if you go to Galleria Timeworld in Dunsan-dong or
Daejeon Shinsegae Department Store,
you can often see pop-up stores
with introductions saying that they were popular at the bread festival.
That title is a tremendous honor haha.
These places gather together at the local festival
and fill the Daejeon Bread Festival.
After gaining the title of "No-Fun City,"
a new word, "bread pilgrimage," was coined, led by Sungsimdang.
I think the bread festival is now the culmination of that culture.
