Autumn Meets the Walking Trail and Suspension Bridge!

Majang Lake, Paju

As October approaches, nature is deepening its autumn hues.

The mountains and fields are beginning to show their fall colors, and the midday breeze is refreshing.

It's a wonderful season for walking, and I had the pleasure of enjoying it a bit early at Majang Lake.

Majang Lake is a representative tourist spot in Paju, attracting many visitors from the city and the surrounding metropolitan area.

The beautiful combination of mountains and lakes, along with the flat deck paths, makes it easy for anyone to take a leisurely stroll.

In anticipation of the autumn foliage season, Paju City has added benches for comfortable walking and relaxation.

Additionally, from October to November, there will be autumn foliage busking every Saturday and Sunday.

There are two main ways to enjoy Majang Lake: the suspension bridge and the deck road surrounding the lake.

From April to November, water sports are also available at Majang Lake.

Canoeing, kayaking, and king canoeing are offered for a fee of 15,000 KRW per person.

For sports enthusiasts, this is a great opportunity to try something new.

I started my day a little earlier and arrived at Majang Lake by 7:30 AM.

Contrary to my expectation of an empty lake, I saw several people walking and running.

As the clock passed 9 AM, more visitors began to arrive.

The suspension bridge opens at 9 AM and operates until 5, 6, or 8 PM, depending on the season.

From May to October, it remains open until 8 PM, allowing ample time to enjoy the area.

The deck path starts from the parking area and leads to the waterfront and viewpoint.

Whichever route you choose, it loops back to the starting point.

The suspension bridge opens at 9 AM, but the deck road is always open, allowing for free access from early morning to late evening.

However, it is advised to refrain from walking after dark for safety reasons.

The deck road around Majang Lake is a 3.6 km loop connected to the suspension bridge, taking about 1.5 hours to complete.

Please note that due to emergency sluice gate replacements and maintenance work, some sections will be closed from September 1, 2026, to December 2028.

When using the parking area that leads to the viewpoint, it is recommended to walk to the right side facing the lake.

The left section is closer to the restricted area and provides only a short walking course.

Due to the restricted sections, the walking path around Majang Lake starts towards Yangju on the right, leading you across the suspension bridge.

Those who started walking early had to retrace their steps as the suspension bridge had not yet opened.

The restricted area is located at the left end, requiring a quick walk to cross the suspension bridge.

It took about 1 hour at a brisk pace or 1.5 hours to enjoy the scenery at a leisurely pace.

As autumn begins at Majang Lake, the water levels have decreased, exposing more of the lake bed.

Typically, the reservoir holds the most water in early spring, with levels dropping as summer transitions into autumn.

The walking path along the water features a long deck road that makes it feel like you are walking on water.

Despite the lower water levels revealing some of the lake bed, the water remains clear.

New benches have been installed along the deck road for those walking to take a break.

The added benches in previously lacking rest areas make it easy to pause and relax during your walk.

Enjoying the surrounding scenery has made the walking journey even more comfortable.

The blue autumn sky and the forest losing its lush greenery create a vibrant atmosphere at Majang Lake.

In the wooded areas, the foliage is starting to change colors.

Maple trees, metasequoias, and broadleaf forests are turning shades of yellow, brown, and red.

As we approach the end of September, the upper sections that receive more sunlight are beginning to show their colors.

With the changing seasons, October promises even more vibrant fall foliage.

The diverse types of trees intersecting create a picturesque autumn landscape.

Walking through the slowly changing autumn scenery, I found myself pausing multiple times to take it all in.

The deck walking trail at Majang Lake is a renowned autumn foliage destination in Paju.

The lakeside path crosses the boundary between Paju and Yangju, leading you back to the opposite deck road.

The end of the lake has dried up, exposing more of the lake bed, altering the scenery along the deck path.

After passing a pavilion where you can enjoy the view, the deck road stretches out more comfortably.

As I approached the suspension bridge, benches were lined up above and below, with signs indicating restricted areas due to construction.

Shortly after crossing the suspension bridge, access was blocked.

The construction is set to continue until December 2028, meaning you will need to cross the suspension bridge or retrace your steps for a round trip.

At 9 AM, the suspension bridge that had been firmly closed opened up.

The suspension bridge is 220 meters long and 1.5 meters wide, allowing two people to walk side by side.

There is also a section made of reinforced glass in the middle, allowing you to look down at the lake below.

It truly felt like walking on water.

As more people arrived, the bridge shook more, adding to the thrill of the experience.

With the addition of benches along the Majang Lake walking path, there are now more resting spots, and the autumn colors are gradually appearing.

Though only some areas with ample sunlight have started to change, it will deepen as we move into October.

Enjoy the beautiful autumn foliage during your stroll at the picturesque Majang Lake.
