A Relaxing Weekend at Nixsen Cafe in Namyangju
Feeling the urge to escape to the outskirts of Seoul for the weekend, I was excited when a friend mentioned a nice cafe in Namyangju. The weather was perfect for a drive, making it an ideal getaway.
As we left the bustling city, breathing in the fresh air already felt like a healing experience. Nixsen, a hidden gem near Mount Bulam, had us eagerly driving towards it.
Upon arrival, I was pleasantly surprised by the spacious and comfortable environment. With four floors, the scale of the cafe was impressive. It took about 50 minutes to drive from Gangnam, and being able to enjoy such tranquility at this distance is a significant draw. The name Nixsen, meaning 'to be lost in thought,' made me long to relax without a care in the world. I highly recommend this cafe for anyone looking for a drive in the Seoul area.
Nixsen boasts a spacious layout, with each of its four floors offering a unique charm. The moment I walked in, I felt a sense of comfort, thanks to the high ceilings and ample space. The first floor was filled with an array of freshly baked breads, and the aroma was irresistible.
One of the standout features of Nixsen is its photo zones. The second floor has charming and pretty spots perfect for capturing memories. The rooftop view was breathtaking, combining the grandeur of Mount Bulam with serene surroundings, truly earning its reputation as a scenic spot.
What sets Nixsen apart from other cafes is its late-night hours, open until 2 AM. This is perfect for a relaxed visit after dinner, enjoying the night air. Sitting on the rooftop with a cup of coffee, I felt the day’s fatigue melt away.
This late-night operation allows for spontaneous drive changes or late-night conversations without any pressure. Finding a cafe open late in the suburbs of Seoul isn't easy, but Nixsen offers a welcoming atmosphere. We ended up staying much longer than planned, engrossed in deep conversations.
Contrary to the expectation of just coffee and desserts, Nixsen has a well-rounded meal menu. We ordered the ham and cheese panini and aglio e olio pasta. The pasta was surprisingly impressive, with perfectly cooked noodles and a rich garlic and olive oil flavor. The panini was crispy on the outside and moist inside, with a delightful blend of ham and fresh vegetables.
After our meal, it was time for coffee. I chose my usual iced Americano, while my friend opted for Nixsen's signature drink, Nixsen Coffee, topped with hazelnut milk and cream. It felt like having dessert in a cup. My iced Americano had a great balance of acidity and bitterness, leaving a satisfying coffee aroma in my mouth.
Parking is often a concern when visiting cafes in the suburbs, but Nixsen has a spacious parking area that accommodates over 100 cars. Located just 5 minutes from Byeollae Station and 10 minutes from Nowon, it's easily accessible and perfect for a drive.
Overall, Nixsen is a multifaceted destination where you can relax in a spacious environment while enjoying delicious meals and drinks. With late-night hours and numerous photo opportunities, it offers a unique experience among cafes in Namyangju. I look forward to bringing my parents for a family photo at the rooftop next time.
