When looking for a winter travel destination to visit with children, indoor spaces that are not affected by the weather naturally catch your eye. In Hamann, Gyeongnam, there is an indoor exhibition space that encompasses the region's identity and agricultural stories—the Hamann Watermelon Exhibition Hall. I recently visited this exhibition hall, built around Hamann's representative specialty product.

The Hamann Watermelon Exhibition Hall is located at 1599 Wolchon-ri, Gunbuk-myeon, Hamann-gun, Gyeongsangnam-do. The hall is closed every Sunday, Monday, and public holidays, with visiting hours from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Experience programs are available from 10:00 AM to 11:30 AM and 1:30 PM to 3:00 PM, with a lunch break from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM.

Today, I would like to introduce the Hamann Watermelon Exhibition Hall. Hamann has been known for watermelon cultivation for a long time. The fertile soil and ample sunlight in the area adjacent to the Nakdong River create a suitable environment for growing watermelons, ensuring the quality of Hamann watermelons over the years.

Hamann watermelons are not evaluated solely based on size or sweetness. The timing of cultivation, greenhouse management techniques, and the farmers' long experience contribute to maintaining stable quality. This process guarantees the reliability of Hamann watermelons today.

The exhibition hall is designed to provide a comprehensive view of the flow of watermelon agriculture in Hamann. It calmly organizes and displays everything from the history of watermelons to the cultivation process and changes in local agriculture, making it a place to naturally understand the relationship between Hamann and watermelons.

Since the exhibition hall is primarily indoor, it can be comfortably visited in both winter and summer without worrying about cold weather or rain. Behind the exhibition hall, there is also a watermelon playground and a greenhouse where you can observe the growth process of watermelons.

The timing for watermelon cultivation varies depending on the region and cultivation method, but in the southern regions, greenhouse cultivation can start as early as January or February, with the main growing phase beginning in March. During this time, watermelon seedlings start to grow in the greenhouse.

If you want to see watermelons hanging on vines, it is best to visit around May when you can observe watermelons of a certain size in the greenhouse, providing an immersive experience. Visiting in winter allows you to get acquainted with watermelons indoors, and returning around May will likely enhance your experience.

When visiting in winter or early spring, the focus will be more on exhibitions rather than actual cultivation sites. However, it offers a calm opportunity to understand the characteristics of watermelon varieties, cultivation techniques, and the structure of Hamann agriculture. Did you know that Hamann watermelons account for 70% of winter watermelons?

Hamann is the top watermelon-producing area in the country and has started a seedless watermelon project to cultivate new concepts. The first color watermelon in the country was also developed here, with 12 varieties, including seedless black-skinned watermelon, yellow honey watermelon, and mango watermelon, being cultivated in Hamann.

The Hamann Watermelon Exhibition Hall is also a place with clear educational purposes. When visiting with children, it serves as a venue to help them gain a basic understanding of agriculture and ingredients, while also providing a comfortable experience for senior visitors.

In conclusion, if you are interested in Hamann watermelons, understanding watermelon agriculture through the exhibition hall is a great way to start. Especially in winter, it provides a space to spend ample time indoors, enhancing your travel satisfaction. After visiting, moving on to nearby historical sites or cultural facilities would create a natural flow for your trip.

Thank you for reading my review of the Hamann Watermelon Exhibition Hall, a great place to spend time with Hamann and its watermelons.
