Hello! As we enter June, the month of national defense and veterans, I would like to introduce a meaningful visit to a memorial facility in Ham-an.
The proud 'Police Victory Memorial Park' represents Ham-an and is a place where you can vividly feel the breath and history of those who fought bravely for our country. If you're looking for a place to visit in Ham-an this June, please keep this in mind.
Our country is considered one of the safest in the world thanks to the police officers who steadfastly protect us. During the Korean War in June 1950, many patriotic police officers risked their lives to defend South Korea against the advancing North Korean army in the Ham-an region.
These individuals were at the starting point of the peace we enjoy today.
The 'Police Victory Memorial Park' is located near the Guryong Intersection. It was completed in June 2023 and designated as a memorial facility in December of the same year.
The park features the Police Victory Memorial Hall, where you can encounter the intense history, a beautiful victory tower, and photo zones to create lovely memories. It is closed on Mondays and is open for free viewing from 10 AM to 5 PM. (Please avoid visiting during lunch hours from 12 PM to 1 PM when the doors are temporarily closed.)
Inside the exhibition hall of the Police Victory Memorial, you will find inspiring stories. It begins with a timeline of the Korean War, vividly documenting the tense wartime situations.
In particular, the hall details the brave actions of patriotic police officers who fought for the country and the heroes who defended the Ham-an area during the Korean War. It also provides insights into the modern-day police force and a vision for a bright future, making it highly educational.
The term 'patriotic police' refers to those proud officers who took up arms to protect the nation and its citizens during critical times like the Korean War. After the liberation, the police continued to engage in unconventional warfare against communist armed groups like the Korean People's Guerrilla Army, achieving significant accomplishments during the Korean War.
Ham-an was one of the fiercest battlegrounds on the Nakdong River defense line, where police units, including around 90 personnel, managed to thwart the crossing of over 1,000 North Korean troops from the 7th Division.
This year, the Police Victory Memorial held a meaningful ceremony to commemorate fallen officers on the 76th anniversary of the Korean War. During my visit, I was deeply moved to learn how fiercely the police have fought to protect our democracy long before the Korean War.
The 'Police Victory Memorial Park' in Ham-an is a historically significant site that even police academy trainees visit to pay their respects. If you're looking for a meaningful place to explore in Ham-an this June, I highly recommend stopping by.
