Discover the Healing Forest of Murung in Donghae, Gangwon Province

As the summer vacation season approaches, if you are looking for a smart travel destination to escape the crowds and rejuvenate your body and mind, Donghae in Gangwon Province is worth considering. At the entrance of the renowned Murung Valley, famous for its lush primeval forest and refreshing streams, lies a special healing space managed by the local government.
Spanning approximately 24,000 square meters, this wellness hub offers more than just accommodation; it features eco-friendly jjimjilbang (Korean sauna) and natural water play facilities. Every year around this time, it attracts not only modern individuals weary from urban pollution and stress but also families looking to enjoy a filial tourism experience with their parents.
The most compelling reason to visit this place during the summer season is the existence of the nature-friendly outdoor pool, 'Osunyeo-tang'. This unique water play area is filled directly from the pristine water source of the nearby Murung Valley, allowing visitors to enjoy the refreshing natural environment without any artificial disinfectant odors.
This facility will operate daily from July 10 to August 20, from 9 AM to 5 PM. There is no separate admission fee, but a maintenance fee of 4,000 KRW for passenger vehicles is charged. Cooking, camping, drinking, and bringing pets are strictly prohibited to maintain a pleasant environment.
In line with its identity as a natural healing center, the accommodation infrastructure is also very eco-friendly. The four lodges named after nearby famous mountains are constructed using natural materials like yellow clay and cedar wood, filling the rooms with a pleasant wood aroma upon entry. Prices start at a reasonable 60,000 KRW per night, making it a cost-effective choice.
To promote perfect detoxification and relaxation, cooking is completely prohibited in the rooms, and the entire center is designated as a non-alcohol space. While this may seem strict, it ensures that there are no food odors, providing a serene environment for reflection. Although cooking is not allowed, guests can use the communal kitchen's microwave, and breakfast can be ordered with a reservation at least three days in advance.
For day visitors, the center offers a variety of jjimjilbang-themed experiences, including a white jade room for detoxification and a salt cave that purifies the respiratory system with fine salt particles. The admission fee is 7,000 KRW for general adults, while guests and seniors enjoy a discounted rate of 5,000 KRW, making it easy to indulge in a long spa experience.
On the day of check-out, be sure to take advantage of the valuable benefits provided at the lobby. Guests receive a special discount voucher for 30% off unique activities at the nearby tourist attraction 'Murung Byeolyu Cheonji', such as off-road luge and sky glider experiences, enriching the day's travel itinerary.
If you prefer a more tranquil healing experience, crossing the 'Cheongok Bridge' adjacent to the management building leads directly to the Murung Valley ticket booth. Strolling along the path that connects the clear water sounds to Murung Rock and Samhwa Temple, culminating at the majestic twin waterfalls, will recharge your energy for returning to daily life.
