Introducing the SamSan Haesol Youth Center in Ulsan

Hello, I'm Kim Jong-hee, a reporter for the Ulsan Nuri Blog!
Recently, a special space for youth opened in SamSan-dong, Nam-gu, Ulsan.
This is the SamSan Haesol Youth Center.
Not only does it serve as a shelter and play area for young people, but it has also been recognized for its architectural value, making it a truly wonderful place.
Although parking can be challenging in this residential area, there is a small parking space available outside the building.
Anyone aged 9 to 24 can use the facility. The age criteria have been adjusted to allow more youth to benefit from the center.
According to Article 3, Clause 1 of the Youth Basic Act, it refers to individuals aged 9 to 24, which is different from the term 'minor'!
The building is not only visually appealing and stylish, but once inside, it feels efficient and well-utilized in terms of space.
The bright colors create a cheerful atmosphere, making it an inviting place for youth to enjoy and relax.
In the center of the building, there is an open courtyard-like area, a structure rarely seen in urban settings, which made me exclaim, "Wow!" I could imagine the youth gathering there, chatting and having a great time, bringing a smile to my face.
Upon visiting, you will need to fill out a facility usage log first. Having a youth card makes this process easier!
1. Architectural Awards and Purpose of Establishment
The SamSan Haesol Youth Center received the Grand Prize in the public sector at the 2025 Ulsan Metropolitan City Architecture Awards.
Its warm exterior made of red bricks and the organic design allows youth to feel the light and breeze, making it stand out.
With many windows and colorful designs, the center is both safe and visually appealing, thanks to rounded corners for safety considerations.
2. Meaning Behind 'Haesol'
The name 'Haesol' means to grow bright like the sun and green like a pine tree.
It's a beautiful name that carries a deeper meaning, as it is derived from the first letters of six promises made to the youth!
Inside the center, the six promises to the youth are written:
Happy: May you be happy,
Able: Discover your talents,
Energy: Be filled with energy,
Support: We support you,
Organization: Recognize you as a member of a warm community,
Light: Always be a light that shines on you.
3. Facilities by Floor
The center has facilities up to the 4th floor, and I explored its various spaces.
The youth counselor kindly explained how to use a space called 'Didim', which I was unfamiliar with.
▪️1st Floor: Talk Talk Lobby, Song Song Karaoke
▪️2nd Floor: Tong Tong Office, Sparkling Self-Governance Activity Room
▪️3rd Floor: Wagle Wagle Multipurpose Hall
▪️4th Floor: Kung Kung Dance Practice Room, Dong Dong Band Practice Room, Specialized Activity Room, Sol Sol Rest Deck
The karaoke, band practice room, and dance practice room are very popular facilities. Anyone can use them by making a reservation, so be sure to book in advance!
The multipurpose hall is available for rental, and self-governance meetings are held in the self-governance activity room.
4. Operating Hours and Precautions
The center is closed on Mondays and public holidays, so be sure to check the hours before visiting!
• Tuesday to Friday: 10:00 AM - 9:00 PM
• Saturday: 10:00 AM - 8:00 PM
• Sunday: 10:00 AM - 6:00 PM

The SamSan Haesol Youth Center is a place where youth can freely express their dreams and talents!
Having opened not long ago, the center is very clean and pleasant.
There are various facilities available for free, and the programs are enriching.
The youth counselors are present, so you can inquire about programs or usage.
