Hello, this is the official blog reporter team of Ulsan Metropolitan City.

We recently visited Jangsaengpo's 'Whale Culture Village,' a representative tourist spot in Ulsan that reinterprets the historical significance of whaling into cultural content.

This place offers a multitude of attractions, so we recommend visiting with plenty of time to spare.

Jangsaengpo Whale Culture Village, which recreates the 1970s whaling town, has been included in the '2nd Local 100' list organized by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.

Being the only site in Ulsan selected for the 2nd Local 100 adds even more significance to this recognition.

After the 'Jangsaengpo Cultural Warehouse' was selected in the first Local 100, this marks the second selection for the Nam-gu district.

The Ministry reviewed 1,042 candidates submitted by 17 cities and provinces across the country, narrowing it down to 200 based on recommendations from local governments and citizen discovery teams, ultimately selecting 66 cultural landmarks and 34 cultural contents.

We were thrilled to hear that the Whale Culture Village, a unique tourist destination that embodies both the historical and contemporary aspects of whale culture, has been recognized!

Operating hours: 9 AM - 6 PM (last admission at 5:30 PM)

Extended hours on weekends: March, November, December: 9 AM - 7 PM; April to October: 9 AM - 8 PM

Regular closure: Every Monday, Lunar New Year, and Chuseok Day

Admission fee: 3,000 KRW for adults, youth, and children

Please note that bicycles are not allowed on the premises. On sunny days, you can take advantage of the free sunshade rental service.

During the hot summer, the village acts like an oasis, making visits much more enjoyable.

I visited during the week and was able to explore in a peaceful atmosphere.

During the recent holiday season, the village saw a significant increase in family visitors, reinforcing its reputation as a family-friendly tourist destination filled with fun activities for all ages.

Various family-oriented programs were conducted, such as 'Lunar New Year Games at Jangsaengpo,' 'Learning Traditional Greetings at Jangsaengpo,' and 'Making Calligraphy Lunar New Year Money Envelopes,' which received positive feedback from visitors.

The Whale Culture Village, with its recreation of the old Jangsaengpo town, provides a nostalgic ambiance that allows visitors to experience Ulsan's whaling history through various attractions and hands-on programs.

Among the facilities in the Whale Culture Special Zone, the Whale Culture Village plays a crucial role in connecting the past and present, as well as art and experience.

While the Whale Museum and Ecological Experience Center focus on knowledge and observation, the Whale Culture Village is centered around emotional experiences based on the essence of the old whaling town.

With the village's brand value recognized through the 'Local 100,' we anticipate even stronger synergy with other tourist resources in the special zone!

Visitors can rent uniforms, sashes, hats, and bags at an affordable price, adding a unique fun element to their experience.

Efforts are ongoing to transform the village into a space not just for viewing but for experiencing and staying.

This year, major infrastructure expansions are planned, including the 'Coaster Cart,' 'Whale Path,' and accommodation facilities, promising exciting growth for the future.

We believe that the village will provide visitors with a chance to fully enjoy the old Jangsaengpo ambiance, night views, and the sea, supporting the sustainable growth of the Whale Culture Special Zone extended until 2028.

The Whale Culture Village, transforming into a national attraction with 1.7 million annual visitors, has the potential to become a global cultural hub recognized worldwide.

We hope that the whale, a subject that evokes nostalgia, becomes a key asset opening up a new future for Ulsan.
