Exploring Ulsan Grand Park and Yeocheon Stream

With pleasant walking days continuing, I searched for a nice place to stroll and ended up walking from Ulsan Grand Park along the Yeocheon Stream to our neighborhood.
Since some time ago, a neat and beautiful walking path has been established between Ulsan Grand Park and Yeocheon Stream, making it suitable to be called 'Yeocheon Stream Trail' or 'Ulsan Grand Park Circular Path'.
I believe this is a perfect place to walk during this sunny season.
I often enjoy trekking or running along this route, and I thought it was a shame to keep this place to myself, so I wanted to share it with our blog readers.
Now, let me list the features of Ulsan Grand Park and Yeocheon Stream, which connect the heart of Ulsan with its lifeblood.
The journey begins at Ulsan Grand Park, located in the expansive area of Sinjeong-dong and Okdong in Ulsan’s Nam-gu.
Ulsan Grand Park has played a significant role in transforming Ulsan's image from an industrial city to an ecological city, boasting an area of 3.64 million square meters. It serves as a resting place for Ulsan citizens and a tourist attraction for visitors, thanks to the social contributions of local companies and municipal efforts.
The park has entrances at the south, main, and east gates.
At the main entrance, a spacious plaza showcases beautiful waterfront scenery, harmonizing willow trees and various aquatic plants. Just gazing at the green waters brings peace to the mind throughout the year.
The walking paths are accessible to people of all ages, allowing anyone to enjoy the lush forest trails that make you forget you are in a city park.
As you pass through the dense forest path from the main entrance and head towards the east gate, you’ll find the underpass leading to Yeocheon Stream, marking the beginning of the stream and the storytelling path known as 'Dalgaebi Road'.
Dalgaebi Road is themed around the folklore of Yeocheon Stream, reinterpreting the legend of goblins that once inhabited the area. It tells the story of a goblin who got lost in the forest after playing late at Namsan's twelve peaks, only to be guided home by the bright moon, which he eventually fell in love with.
Yeocheon Stream flows through the center of Ulsan's Nam-gu and into the sea at Ulsan Port, embodying both the history and ecological recovery of Ulsan. Although it suffered severe pollution during industrialization, it is now a beloved urban oasis, thanks to ongoing ecological restoration projects.
The water quality has improved to the point where fish swim and otters can be spotted, providing emotional stability for citizens amid the urban landscape.
With a long walking and cycling path stretching from Sinjeong-dong to Daldong and Samsan-dong, there are many opportunities to explore.
Additionally, murals depicting Ulsan's symbols and local folklore can be seen under bridges and on retaining walls, showcasing the transformation from a once foul-smelling river to a revitalized waterway.
Today, I walked from Ulsan Grand Park to Yeocheon Stream, closely connected to Ulsan's key infrastructure. Walking along the extended paths, you can reach the bustling areas of Samsan-dong and industrial complexes near Ulsan Port.
Thus, Yeocheon Stream creates a unique landscape of nature and industry, allowing Ulsan citizens to enjoy the closest natural environment while taking a break from their busy lives.
From the lush greenery of Ulsan Grand Park to the romantic tales of Yeocheon Stream, Nam-gu is filled with attractive places where nature and stories intertwine.
Experience relaxation and inspiration in Ulsan Nam-gu, a city reborn from its industrial past to one flowing with ecology and culture.
