Exploring the Scenic Sunbawoo Trail by the Sea

When you think of 'summer', what comes to your mind first: mountains, rivers, or the sea?
For me, it's definitely the sea! So, I decided to head out to see it!
While diving into the sea today might be difficult due to the low water temperature,
I visited Sunbawoo Trail, a place where I can embrace the sea and admire the unique rock formations.
The trail isn't very long, and it gives you a real sense of walking over the sea.
It would be nice to enjoy a light drive along the coastal road while visiting.
I parked near the breakwater and followed the signs towards the Sunbawoo Trail.
I noticed that this area is a UNESCO Global Geopark site along the East Coast of Gyeongbuk.

I learned some new historical facts while reading the explanations!
The round trip takes about 30 minutes, and as soon as I stepped onto the coastal walkway, Sunbawoo welcomed me.
At first glance, I wondered if the rocks were made of sand.
Here's a secret about one of the rocks!
It is said that this rock was struck by lightning, causing it to shrink in size.
So, I decided to take a closer picture of it.
As I passed by, I noticed a rock that resembled a human face and recorded a video of it!
As I walked past more rocks, thoughts like 'That rock is quite unique' and 'It looks similar to something' kept coming to mind.
Then, I saw some rocks with names attached to them, and it made me realize that even the rocks I passed by casually had their own names.
I suddenly felt a sense of regret for the rocks I had overlooked.
After walking for a while, I spotted a rock that looked unusual!
This is Hindaegi.
It is named for the many white rocks formed from volcanic ash during volcanic activity.
This trail is also part of the Homibang Coastal Trail Course 2.
If you have time, I recommend checking the map and taking a walk here.
You can enjoy a magnificent view of the sea in Pohang!
There are also short, fluffy coastal areas.
Walking on the comfortable wooden path and suddenly stepping onto a gravel path felt like a foot massage, which was surprisingly delightful.
I reached the turnaround point, Meokbawoo.
It's also known as the Black Rock, and according to the sign, it is believed to be the rock that carried Yeonorang and Seonyeo.
There's a theme park nearby dedicated to Yeonorang and Seonyeo, where you can see a lot!
If you have time, I highly recommend stopping by.
Now, I retrace my steps.
And I reflect on the endless sea.
The long tetrapods laid out over the sea caught my eye.
At the end of it, a tree washed ashore by the waves created a unique landscape.
If you were to see this scene up close on a foggy day, it would feel mystical and surreal, like a scene from a movie.
On the way back, I faced the sunlight directly.
Although it wasn't sunset yet, the low rays of sunlight gave off a hint of a sunset-like atmosphere.
The East Sea is well-known for its sunrises, but gazing at the warm sunlight settling on the sea and the path reveals another charm.
I also captured the glimmering appearance of the pebbles in the sunlight! What do you think?
On the way back, I began to notice rocks that I hadn't paid attention to on the way in.
Even though I was walking the same path, it felt like I was encountering different landscapes depending on where I looked, which added a touch of fun to my walk.
I took one last look at the sea along the Sunbawoo Trail in Pohang.
Before summer officially arrives, don't you want to feel the summer atmosphere a step ahead?
If you have some time, I strongly recommend visiting the Yeonorang and Seonyeo Theme Park!
