A Day Trip to Jangsaengpo: Where Culture, Art, Memories, and the Sea Meet

June is the most beautiful season for hydrangeas in Jangsaengpo.

The early summer in Jangsaengpo paints a vast watercolor with purple and pink hydrangeas nurtured by the blue sea breeze.

In 2026, I visited Jangsaengpo, which has become even more vibrant with the blooming hydrangeas and the opening of the country's first circular powered experience facility, the 'Whales Kart'.

This trip involved taking a bus to start at the trendy cultural warehouse in Jangsaengpo, walking through the old memories and life stories along the Jangsaengyo Old Road, passing through the Jangsaengpo Whale Cultural Village, and reaching the sunset path in front of the Jangsaengpo Whale Museum.

It took about 20 minutes by bus from my home in Nam-gu to Jangsaengpo.

Even though it was a weekday, Jangsaengpo was bustling due to the '2026 Jangsaengpo Hydrangea Festival'.

At the restaurant we stopped for lunch, a whale symbolizing Ulsan and Nam-gu warmly welcomed us, and the whale-shaped menu caught our eye.

We began our visit at the cultural warehouse, which was transformed from a large cold storage facility, celebrating its 5th anniversary with a special exhibition titled 'QUEENS COLLECTION: British Royal Exhibition'.

Don't forget to take a photo at the photo zone at the entrance of the cultural warehouse!

The exhibition is located on the 4th floor, and while entry is free, you need to obtain a ticket from the lobby on the first floor.

As soon as I entered the 'British Royal Exhibition', I felt the dignity and history of the British royal family.

The exhibition features photos capturing the noble moments of Queen Elizabeth, exquisite tableware used in royal events, intricately decorated tea sets, and splendid garments and accessories symbolizing royal authority, all illuminated under soft lighting.

As a special highlight, the King's Hall used in the coronation of Edward VII was unveiled for the first time.

The exhibition ran for three months, and I finally got to visit.

After finishing our first journey at the cultural warehouse, we headed towards the Jangsaengyo Old Road.

The Jangsaengyo Old Road is a historical path connecting Jangsaengpo and the town before the paved road was built in the early 1940s.

As we walked, we encountered murals and photographs that tell the stories of the past.

After a 10-minute walk from the entrance of Jangsaengyo Old Road, we found 'Ujjan Spring', the only well that remains in its original form among three wells in Jangsaengpo.

Walking along the old road, I imagined the past as I saw a statue of a person carrying water barrels.

The Jangsaengyo Old Road symbolizes a path of longevity and health, inviting visitors to walk and reflect on the memories of the past.

As we continued, I could see the cherry blossom path of Jangsaengpo, promising a return in spring.

Upon reaching the Jangsaengpo Whale Cultural Village, we enjoyed the cool sea breeze and the view of Ulsan Bridge from a hilltop.

Finally, we arrived at the Whale Square, where hydrangeas bloom beautifully, creating a picturesque scene.

Jangsaengpo is not just a tourist spot but a special place where the stories of whales and people come alive.

With over 90,000 blooming hydrangeas, the village is a perfect spot for photography, with every corner offering a beautiful backdrop.

After enjoying the vibrant atmosphere, we took a thrilling ride on the 'Whales Kart', a unique electric-powered experience facility.

Our day concluded with a visit to the 'Whales Swing', an aerial swing offering stunning views of the surroundings.

For a complete experience, consider staying at 'Gorae Jam', a family-friendly accommodation that offers comfort and convenience.

As the day comes to an end, I reflect on the vibrant memories created in Jangsaengpo.

Enjoy the beauty of hydrangeas and the stories of the sea!
