Exploring the Scenic Gomosan Fortress in Mungyeong

I visited Gomosan Fortress in Mungyeong, a place where you can feel the beauty of nature during the most picturesque season of spring.
Walking along the historic fortress trail, I was excited to see the lush green forests and the scenic views of the Jin Namgyoban.
Before ascending the fortress, I came across a sign explaining the history of the rabbit trail and Gomosan Fortress.
The map indicated well-marked walking paths, making it easy to explore at a leisurely pace.
I started my walk from the traditional tavern street towards the south gate.
The area recreated the atmosphere of the old Yeongnam Road, making me feel as if I had stepped into a journey of the past.
Here, I also saw a traditional tavern street designed in the style of Joseon-era hanoks, allowing me to imagine the scholars and travelers who once rested there.
Upon entering, the first thing that caught my eye was the South Gate.
As I climbed along the fortress trail, I naturally encountered stories about the history of Gomosan Fortress.
Gomosan Fortress is said to have been built in the 5th century during the Three Kingdoms period as a military defense stone fortress to protect against northern invasions.
It played significant roles throughout various eras, including the Goryeo Dynasty, the late Joseon period, and even during the Korean War.
The path along the stairs was not as difficult as I expected.
In fact, each time I turned around, the unfolding green scenery was so beautiful that I found myself stopping frequently.
Near the South Gate, you can also enjoy views of the Jin Namgyoban, where the flowing Yeonggang River meets the mountains, creating a stunning sight.
I took a moment to rest on a stone wall, and gazing at the scenery brought me great comfort.
Every photo I took turned out beautifully.
I couldn't pass by the photo zone at Gomosan Fortress without stopping.
There were spots to take pictures with the fortress under the open sky and a crescent moon-shaped photo zone!
The round trip at Gomosan Fortress took about an hour.
The course itself was gentle, making it pleasant to stroll and take in the sights.
However, since the sunlight can be quite strong, it’s better to visit in the late afternoon rather than midday.
If you love the fresh nature of early summer and the quiet fortress paths, I highly recommend walking the Gomosan Fortress trail!
