Exploring the Scenic Beauty of Mungyeong
Hello! Today, I want to share my summer trip to the beautiful regions of Sanbuk-myeon and Sanyang-myeon in Mungyeong, Gyeongbuk, where history, nature, and warm-hearted people come together like a landscape painting.
I visited the Seonyu Nine Scenic Spots in Ga-eun-eup, the Ssangyong Nine Scenic Spots in Nongam-myeon, the Hwaji Nine Scenic Spots in Mungyeong-eup, and the Seokmun and Cheongdae Nine Scenic Spots located in Sanyang-myeon and Sanbuk-myeon, which I will introduce today.
The abundance of scenic spots in Mungyeong signifies the area's stunning landscapes.
Juamjeong
Juamjeong (Seokmun Nine Scenic Spots)

Juam, the 'Second Spot' of the Seokmun Nine Scenic Spots, is located in Seojung-ri, Sanbuk-myeon. It is an excellent example of nature's wonders.
The rock here is so distinctly shaped that it evokes the impression of a boat gliding over the water. Perched delicately on this unique rock is the Juamjeong Pavilion.
Currently, Juamjeong is surrounded by blooming lotus flowers. It was built in 1944 by the descendants of the Confucian scholar Chae Ik-ha (1633-1675) to honor him.
To preserve the rock's form, the pavilion was constructed facing northwest instead of the traditional south. It showcases an innovative architectural beauty where the building and rock blend seamlessly.
Originally, the Geumcheon River flowed right in front of the pavilion, but due to a major flood, the waterway changed, and the area transformed into farmland. The 10th generation descendant, Chae Hoon-sik, regretted the loss of water and excavated a sizable pond in front of the pavilion to restore the waterway.
Thanks to the continuous care of the pavilion since 1977, visitors can enjoy the sight of pink lotus flowers blooming over the pond and orange trumpet vines flourishing along the stone walls during summer.
July and August are the peak times to see the pond filled with delicate pink lotus flowers and the charming orange trumpet vines. If you visit Mungyeong, be sure to stop by.
Across the Geumcheon River from Juamjeong is the Gyeongchejeong Pavilion in Hyun-ri, Sanyang-myeon, facing it warmly.
The clear waters of Geumcheon create a picturesque view, with the elegant Gyeongchejeong on the left and the lush Juamjeong nestled in the forest on the right.
Gyeongchejeong

Built in 1935 by the descendants of the Chae family from Incheon, Gyeongchejeong is a two-story pavilion honoring the deep bond of seven brothers, including Chae Seong-woo.
The pavilion was originally located in Hyun-ri village but was moved to its current beautiful spot by the Geumcheon River in 1971.
The name 'Gyeongche' carries a profound meaning, derived from the Classic of Poetry. It symbolizes the longing for virtuous sages and the fraternal love represented by the mountain cherry tree.
Sit on the broad granite rock that resembles a courtyard in front of Gyeongchejeong and enjoy the scenery of Mungyeong's Geumcheon. Look for the three sacred holes where ancestors prayed for blessings.
The serene waters of Geumcheon and the clear sky, with herons playing around, make this place incredibly refreshing. Don't miss the shade of Gyeongchejeong!
Nearby Juamjeong and Gyeongchejeong, there is a famous dessert shop that you must check out. Recently, it was praised by TV personalities for its 'life-changing taste' and has been recognized as a local culinary gem.
This countryside bakery has been cherished since 1975 and has a hidden cooking secret that has made it a nationwide hotspot.
The master’s rice cake is made using a unique method of boiling the glutinous rice dough in boiling water, ensuring a perfect chewy texture without needing any water.

The silk-like waters of Geumcheon cradle the picturesque Juam and Gyeongchejeong. This weekend, take a stroll through Mungyeong, where you can feel the gentle breeze and watch the herons play.
