Exploring the Scenic Beauty of Gyeongju's Buwon Temple

Hello! I am Jamie, a traveling gardener and a supporter of Gyeongsangbuk-do's SNS.
As the cherry blossoms fade, the vibrant yellows and greens of spring have arrived.
Let me share with you the picturesque landscape of the canola fields and green barley fields around Buwon Temple in Gyeongju, perfect for a leisurely stroll with your child or while pushing a stroller.
1. Address, Parking, and Viewing Information
📍 Address: 94-11 Buwon-ro, Gyeongju, Gyeongsangbuk-do (Buwon Temple and its front yard)
🎟️ Admission: Free
✅ Parking: Free parking available right in front of the temple. There is plenty of space for large vehicles!
✅ Facilities: Clean restrooms are located inside Buwon Temple.
2. Stroller-Friendly Paths
When traveling with kids, the condition of the path is often a concern. You never know when they might want to be carried, so a stroller is essential!
The paths through the canola and barley fields at Buwon Temple are well-maintained and flat, making them convenient for strollers and wheelchairs.
During my visit with a portable stroller, I found it easy to navigate smoothly. There are paths leading into the fields and in front of the sculptures, allowing for a delightful walk immersed in nature.
3. Exploring the Canola Fields
Why do so many people eagerly await the canola flowers and green barley at Buwon Temple during the peak of spring? ✨
The main reason is the breathtaking view where the waves of canola and barley meet the gentle slopes of Gyeongju's low mountains, creating a stunning landscape.
In particular, the treasure of Gyeongju, the stone lantern of the temple, stands tall amidst the yellow sea of canola flowers. This precious relic, which once announced significant events at the temple during the Silla period, now harmonizes with the canola flowers, serving as a bridge between the past and present.
Instead of the noise of the city, you can hear the clear sounds of birds and the gentle breeze wafting across the vast fields, creating a beautiful symphony with the canola flowers. Listening to the rustling petals brings a sense of calm to both body and mind.
As you walk along the yellow waves of canola flowers, you will find a refreshing green barley field on your right. Look closely, and you might spot a shy red poppy blooming among the green stalks, a cute little guest wondering, "How did I end up here?" It could be a fun game to see who spots it first with your child.
Gyeongju is renowned for its beautiful scenery, making it a must-visit destination. The soft afternoon sunlight enhances the warm appearance of the barley fields.
Some visitors return to the barley fields at night to see the large moon sculpture, which is a popular attraction. During the day, it appears as a white sculpture resting on the blue barley sea, and at night, it lights up in yellow, creating a romantic atmosphere.
As you walk along the paths of swaying green barley, take a moment to look back. Beneath your feet are the vibrant green barley, and beyond that, the endless yellow canola flower garden stretches out. In the distance, the tranquil Buwon Temple and the gentle slopes of Gyeongju embrace the blue sky.
With such romantic scenery, the love of couples and the laughter of families will surely deepen. If you visit after 4 PM, you will experience a much warmer and cozier Gyeongju, perfect for taking photos.
Be sure to check out the nearby Cheomseongdae, Wolseong, and Gyerim as well. The canola and barley at Buwon Temple can typically be enjoyed until mid-June.
Gyeongju Buwon Temple is a travel destination that holds the most Korean scenery. Make sure to visit this week! :)
