Pre-Program of the 14th Seoul Mediacity Biennale: 'Foran'

Artwork Introduction — Lee Jungwoo, 'Did Not Board', 2021

'Did Not Board' is a project that aims to complete a film that has yet to be produced at the pre-production stage. However, this attempt soon becomes engulfed in typical and conventional production methods, revealing the reality dominated by images of ruins. Ultimately, this work, which seeks to visualize future images, showcases the 'remainder' that emerges amidst the cracks and discrepancies inherent in the process.

Choi Chansook, 'Letters: Always Unfinished Letters', 2026

'Letters: Always Unfinished Letters' is composed of accumulated personal documents based on interviews and correspondence conducted during the artwork's production process. It starts from the premise that letters exchanged among intellectuals in the 17th century served as a kind of laboratory and an early form of academic papers, shaping the flow of intellectual thought at the time. This reveals that the foundations of science have been formed not only through logic and reason but also through private exchanges and the sharing of opinions.

Choi Chansook, 'Re-Move', 2017

'Re-Move' is a work consisting of five omnibus videos. Created between 2010 and 2017, it is an autobiographical work that stems from questions about the unstable identity the artist faced while living as a foreigner in Germany for an extended period. The stories of women encountered along the artist's journey illustrate that memory is not exclusively owned but is a process of finding a language to understand each other through contact with others.
