Exploring the Robo Life Museum in Pohang

The Robo Life Museum is located at POSTECH in Pohang.
While searching for indoor activities during our trip to Pohang with our baby, we decided to visit the museum.
We went in without any prior knowledge, thinking it was a free exhibition, but we were pleasantly surprised by how satisfying the experience was!
Location and Hours
● Operating Hours: 10:00 AM - 6:00 PM (Lunch Break: 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM)
● Admission Fee: 5,000 KRW for adults and children; free for children under 24 months and seniors over 65; 4,000 KRW for groups of 20 or more.
● Guided tours are available by a robot curator at scheduled times.
● Reservation is required: Please check the museum's website.
● Parking is available.
We made a reservation thinking it was a robot exhibition, but it turned out to be a program where a professional curator guides you through the exhibits for about an hour.
Even though we were the only team who made a reservation on a weekday, they went ahead with the tour without canceling, which was touching.
During the exhibition, we first watched a video explaining the Korean Robot Convergence Research Institute. Then, we moved to the exhibition hall with the curator.
The pathways were stroller-friendly, but there were some steps, so walking around is recommended, especially with younger children.
The autonomous driving technology showcased, called Kiro, is already commercialized and being used worldwide. It’s a technology we’re quite familiar with now.
However, if you're expecting to see cutting-edge technology, you might be disappointed because only technologies from 10 to 20 years ago are displayed due to intellectual property protections.
For instance, there have been cases where years of research led to products being delayed or even legal battles due to theft of technology.
We also saw a rotating hologram, which, although based on afterimages, is often referred to as holographic technology.
There were interactive robots, like a robot that plays a game of Omok (a Korean board game). It was amusing to see how the robot would reset the board if the pieces were placed incorrectly.
We enjoyed a robot dance performance, which was lively and engaging, with the robot dancing to several songs.
There were also robotic pets that reacted to touch and voice, making them feel quite realistic and even used in therapy.
In the hands-on exhibition area, we found various robots and activities, including a sand experience that could create water channels and hills.
Overall, the Robo Life Museum was a fantastic indoor activity for families and provided an unexpected curation experience that added value to our visit.
It stands out from typical children’s cafes, offering a more educational atmosphere. I believe it would be especially beneficial for elementary school students who can understand the explanations given.
The museum offers affordable admission fees, making it a great stop during our trip to Pohang.
