Have you heard about the new space called 'Picnic Maru' at Ulsan Grand Park? It's a great spot for families!

I recently visited Picnic Maru with my child, and I was pleasantly surprised. It's not just a place with play facilities; it offers a wonderful environment where children can run freely, and adults can relax in the shade, making it a perfect family leisure space.

One of the highlights is the reserved resting area, which provides air conditioning, making it a comfortable spot to take a break even on hot days.

So, when did Picnic Maru open? It officially opened on April 1, 2026, after the renovation of the old Children's Traffic Safety Park within Ulsan Grand Park.

The city invested a total of 3.12 billion won to create this space, which spans approximately 15,883 square meters. The design prioritizes the preservation of existing trees and the natural environment, allowing visitors to enjoy reading, resting, and playing in one location.

Upon visiting, I found plenty of trees and green spaces, along with play facilities for children and resting areas for adults.

The resting area features pergolas, deck areas, tables, sunbeds, and hammocks, while the play area includes net play structures, slides, ziplines, and tree observation decks.

I reserved a resting area at Picnic Maru. There are a total of six resting spots available. Initially, I wondered if it would be cool inside since it looked like a small container from the outside, but upon entering, I found it equipped with air conditioning!

It was perfect for cooling off after playing outside on a hot summer day. Inside the resting area, there are tables for eating or resting, and even power outlets for charging devices.

Additionally, there is an outdoor space right in front of the resting area, making it a great spot for families to spend time together if the weather is nice. After a day of playing outdoors, a place to take breaks is essential.

To use the resting area, you need to make a reservation through the Ulsan Facilities Corporation's integrated reservation system. Currently, the resting area operates on a reservation and fee basis. The usage time is four hours, with a fee of 20,000 won, accommodating up to five people, and it operates in two sessions per day.

There are two sessions available each day. While I was playing with my child, I felt that it would be nice to use both sessions since time flies when you're having fun!

However, you can only reserve one session per day, which was a bit disappointing. Reservations cannot be made under someone else's name, as ID verification is required when receiving the key.

From my observations, preferences for resting areas may vary based on their location. The first and second resting areas are closer to the net playground, making them popular among families with children.

The third and fourth resting areas are near playgrounds for younger kids, but the distance isn't too significant, so it shouldn't cause any inconvenience.

One great feature is the water stations near resting areas three and four, which are convenient for drinking or washing hands. Kids tend to get dirty while playing, so it's nice to have a place to clean up.

If you're visiting with children, I recommend bringing personal water bottles, especially on hot days when they need to stay hydrated.

For kids who enjoy playing in the dirt, there are areas with soil, making it fun for them to dig and play. If your child loves sand play, bringing small shovels or cups would be a good idea. However, be prepared with a change of clothes, as they might get quite dirty!

The net play structure was the highlight for my child. According to the Ulsan Facilities Corporation, children under 100 cm need to be accompanied by an adult. The weight limit is 100 kg, and it can accommodate 50 people at a time.

My child enjoyed walking on the net, and after getting used to it, they had a blast running back and forth. The net feels a bit like a trampoline, which kids love!

There’s also a net slide, allowing kids to climb up and slide down, providing a full-body workout.

While summer can be hot, the net playground offers shade and a nice breeze, making it surprisingly comfortable. I believe the upcoming fall weather will be perfect for kids to enjoy the net playground and outdoor activities.

There are many attractions near Picnic Maru, including the Ulsan Grand Park Zoo, Butterfly Garden, and Rose Garden, making it an excellent day trip for families.

One important note: visitors must clean up their own trash. I plan to bring a small trash bag next time, as snacks and meals can generate more waste than expected.

After using the area, simply clean up with the broom provided to leave it tidy for the next visitors. Keeping the space clean is a shared responsibility!
