Exploring the Namwe Children's Library in Ulsan

Hello! I am Byun Jin-seok, a reporter for the Ulsan Nuri Blog.
Today, I would like to introduce the Namwe Children's Library located in Namwe-dong, Jung-gu, Ulsan.
This facility, built alongside the Namwe Public Parking Lot, is a multi-purpose library. The first floor houses the Namwe Children's Library, while the 3rd to 5th floors contain a public parking lot with 75 spaces.
Address: 614 Byeongyeong-ro, Jung-gu, Ulsan
Operating Hours: Tuesday to Sunday (09:00 - 18:00), closed on Mondays and public holidays.
Parking: Available at the public parking lot.
The Namwe Children's Library is a compact yet well-equipped space with a total area of 441㎡. It features 97 seats in the reading room, a 40-seat small theater, and a 14-seat classroom, providing a total of 151 reading seats, designed with children's perspectives in mind.
The general reading room offers a variety of books for adults, allowing parents to enjoy reading with their children.
Moreover, the library is conveniently accessible by public transportation and offers easy parking at the public parking lot for those driving, making it a great place to visit with kids.
As of December 31, 2025, the Namwe Children's Library holds a total of 9,728 books, including 3,291 adult books, 869 youth books, and 5,568 children's books, showcasing a strong emphasis on children's literature.
The children's book collection includes a balanced variety of genres such as pure science (913 books), literature (2,516 books), history (465 books), and social sciences (635 books), which helps foster a well-rounded reading habit in children.
The library also features a book return box at the entrance for convenient returns even when the library is closed. Health and hygiene are prioritized with a dedicated book sterilization device, and there are self-service borrowing and returning machines available.
The library regularly hosts various reading culture courses aimed at improving children's literacy, reading discussions, and creativity development, with easy online registration. Special events are held during Library Week and Reading Month.
In particular, the Dream Theater hosts family movie screenings, puppet shows, storytelling sessions, and author meet-and-greets, making it a popular weekend destination.
The children's reading room is the heart of the library, designed with an open, two-story layout and underfloor heating for comfort. Books are arranged by age group, making it easy for children to find suitable reading materials.
Adults accompanying children can also find a selection of books to read comfortably. The library creates a natural learning atmosphere where children can mimic reading behavior.
As the weather gets colder, the Namwe Children's Library serves as an ideal warm space for families to gather and read together.
Although it closes at 6 PM on weekdays, limiting access for working individuals, I highly recommend visiting on weekends. Despite its small size, the library is well-utilized by many citizens of Ulsan.
Not only does the library provide book space, but it also includes various facilities for diverse reading programs and cultural activities. The Dream Theater, with its 40-seat capacity, regularly hosts performances, lectures, and movie screenings, establishing itself as a hotspot for family cultural activities.
The Learning Room is a cozy space with 14 seats, offering various reading culture courses aimed at enhancing children's literacy and promoting reading.
In summary, the Namwe Children's Library is more than just a book lending space; it is a joyful playground where the dreams and imaginations of children in Namwe-dong can flourish. How about visiting the Namwe Children's Library this weekend with your child?
