Exploring the Mysteries of Igari Village

Hello, I am Park Jun-sik from the Gyeongbuk SNS Reporter Group.
Today, I would like to share the ongoing "Igari Port Area Fishing Village Revitalization Project" taking place in Igari Village, Pohang, along with the legendary story of the 'Dinosaur Diamond' that is whispered along the seaside.
Igari Village is a small fishing village embraced by the beautiful East Sea. Recently, many tourists have been visiting the anchor observatory, but if you venture further into the village, you will find the charming landscapes and slow-paced life unique to fishing villages.
During this visit, we explored the current state of the village, its future changes, and the fascinating stories that are passed down in the region.
The Fishing Village Revitalization Project, supported by the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries, is being implemented from 2023 to 2026 with a budget of approximately 10 billion won. It includes various initiatives such as improving living conditions, expanding services, attracting young people, and creating local jobs.
This project goes beyond merely upgrading facilities; it aims to enhance the living environment for residents and create a sustainable fishing community by utilizing the village's unique resources. I am excited to see how Igari Village will transform in the future.
Starting in 2026, the village will also be collaborating with certified artists as part of the Korea Artist Welfare Foundation's arts planning project, further enriching the narrative of Igari Village.
We had a discussion led by Secretary Seo Deuk-soo about the work plans to be carried out in Igari Village.
In the future, I plan to interact with the residents and explore various parts of the village to document diverse stories. I look forward to seeing how the village's history, scenery, and people's lives will intertwine with art.
Have you ever heard of the 'Dinosaur Diamond'?
This story gained attention a few years ago through the internet and broadcasts.
It is claimed that a massive dinosaur grave was formed in the sea of Pohang, and over a long period, some remains of dinosaurs have transformed into materials harder than diamonds due to high temperature and pressure.
On the day of my visit, I noticed several people examining the ground along the coast for a long time, seemingly searching for something. It appeared they were looking for unique geological formations or the so-called 'Dinosaur Diamond.'
Of course, there are various opinions regarding this story. However, if a diamond worth millions were truly found here, I doubt only a few people would be quietly searching the coastline as they are now.
I asked one person who was examining stones near the coast, "Are you looking for diamonds?"
They smiled and replied, "No, I just enjoy finding pretty stones. Sometimes there are uniquely shaped stones at the beach, which makes it fun to explore."
Perhaps what is more intriguing than the Dinosaur Diamond is the people who believe in the story and come searching for it, and the fact that this story continues to be passed down.
Igari Village is indeed a place where mystical stories come to life. ^^
