Gwaneumdo, a stunning island where the sea meets rugged mountains,

is a unique sight to behold in Ulleungdo.

This time, we visited the representative scenic spots,

Gwaneumdo and Samsan Rock, among the maritime wonders.

Walking and taking in the sights,

I truly felt the unique essence of the island.

Gwaneumdo: An Island You Walk Into from the Sea

Gwaneumdo is a prominent islet of Ulleungdo.

In the past, it was inaccessible on foot from the main island,

but now a pedestrian bridge connects Ulleungdo and Gwaneumdo,

allowing visitors to cross and explore the island.

As you walk along the mountain path,

you'll pass a path overlooking the sea

and encounter the 140-meter-long blue pedestrian bridge.

Standing on the bridge, the blue East Sea unfolds beneath your feet,

with Ulleungdo's unique sea columnar joint and cliff formations on either side.

From the bridge, you can see Samsan Rock on the left,

while the opposite direction offers views of Jukdo.

Despite the hot sun, many travelers paused on the bridge to capture the scenery.

Crossing the bridge into Gwaneumdo marks the beginning of a full exploration.

Climbing the steep stairs and looking back,

you can see the bridge stretching over the sea.

The circular hiking trail along the coast changes scenes

with each step and direction.

Emerging from the dense forest,

the deep blue sea unfolds before you,

followed by majestic coastal cliffs and the open East Sea filling your view.

Thanks to the long period of limited human access,

nature is well-preserved,

making it a great spot for ecological exploration.

The sea of Ulleungdo from the observation deck!

There are three observation decks along the Gwaneumdo trail

where you can enjoy the surrounding scenery.

From the observation deck, the blue East Sea and

Ulleungdo's coastal cliffs stretch out beautifully.

Depending on the direction you look, you can see Jukdo and Samsan Rock,

and on clear days, you can even catch a glimpse of Dokdo.

Visitors were capturing memories of their time in Ulleungdo with photos.

A noteworthy spot to know during your Gwaneumdo journey is

Sangul Rock.

Although it can't be seen from the Gwaneumdo observation deck,

it can be viewed closely from the sea through boat tours.

The naturally formed rock island, Samsan Rock

As you drive along the coastal road out of Gwaneumdo,

Samsan Rock comes into view.

One of the three major marine scenic spots of Ulleungdo,

the sight of three rocks rising from the sea is quite impressive.

As you approach, the grandeur of the massive rocks and

the texture shaped by years of relentless waves become apparent.

According to legend, three fairies who were captivated by Ulleungdo's beauty

missed their time to return to heaven and were transformed into rocks

by the wrath of the Jade Emperor,

especially the youngest rock, which is said to be barren of even grass.

Reflecting on that story, it seems as if the three rocks stand with their own unique tales,

leaving a deep impression.

If you visit Ulleungdo, be sure to include Gwaneumdo and Samsan Rock,

which are renowned maritime wonders, in your itinerary.

The view of Samsan Rock from the bridge,

and the azure East Sea from the observation deck!

The sea of Ulleungdo left a lasting impression with every step.

The landscapes encountered on this journey will surely remain in memory.
