As the end of August approaches, the serene gardens of the southern region of Korea are beautifully adorned with waves of pink flowers. Located in Goseo-myeon, Damyang-gun, Jeollanam-do, Myeongokheon Garden features a cluster of crape myrtle trees that have withstood nearly 300 years, creating a stunning landscape that attracts countless visitors.
Particularly, the square pond created by Oh I-jeong, the son of Oh Hee-do from the mid-Joseon period, harmonizes green lotus leaves and pink petals, presenting a scene akin to an oriental painting. As summer fades, one must wait another year to experience this beauty, making now the perfect time to visit.
The highlight of Myeongokheon Garden is undoubtedly the ancient crape myrtle trees surrounding the upper and lower ponds. The reflection of the pavilion and pink flowering trees on the pond's surface creates a watercolor-like view, making it a unique viewing point.
Sitting on the pavilion's railing and overlooking the pond offers a vibrant yet restrained experience of traditional Korean garden aesthetics. The gentle sound of the valley water, reminiscent of jade beads clinking, adds to the deep tranquility that inspired the garden's name, 'Myeongokheon.'

After parking at the village entrance, a leisurely five-minute walk along the quaint rural path leads to the garden. This short stroll allows visitors to appreciate the tranquil rural scenery.
Myeongokheon Garden not only boasts beautiful landscapes but also holds deep historical significance. It is said that King Injo of Joseon visited this place to seek talented individuals before ascending the throne, and the ginkgo tree where he tied his horse still stands guard in the northern part of the garden, adding to its historical charm.
Additionally, the story of Uam Song Si-yeol carving the name 'Myeongokheon' into a rock, along with its recognition as a filming location for the popular drama 'Moonlight Drawn by Clouds,' has made it a memorable date spot for young couples.
