Exploring the Art and Nature of Ansan: The 'Eye-Path' Exhibition

As the warm sun shines down these days, I often seek indoor outing spots.
Today, I would like to introduce cultural activities available in Ansan, a city known for its cultural diversity.
Ansan is home to the Gyeonggi Museum of Art.
In celebration of its 20th anniversary this year, a special participatory exhibition titled 'Eye-Path' is currently underway.
Let me take you through the journey of the 'Eye-Path' exhibition.
Exhibition Information for Gyeonggi Museum of Art's 'Eye-Path'
▪ Exhibition Period: May 5, 2026 - November 1, 2026 (Closed every Monday)
▪ Exhibition Venue: Gyeonggi Museum of Art Project Gallery and outdoor/lobby spaces
▪ Participating Artists: Kang Ik-joong, Kwon Gi-soo, Kim Seung-young, Park Kyung-ryul, Yoo Hyun-mi, Lee Won-seok, Joo Se-kyun
Unlike typical exhibitions that start upon entering the gallery, 'Eye-Path' quietly begins outside the museum.
This exhibition is designed so that the viewer's gaze flows naturally from outside to inside, and from one space to another.
The first artwork that captures the eye outside the museum is Kang Ik-joong's 'What I Know.'
Accompanied by the phrase 'The sky just before a storm is a light turquoise,' it evokes artistic sensibility even before entering the exhibition.
Inside the exhibition hall, you can see a variety of works by renowned Korean artists such as Kim Seung-young, Kwon Gi-soo, and Park Kyung-ryul.
As the exhibition name suggests, the captivating artworks lead you to a healing experience as you walk through.
Visitors can borrow audio guides from instructors on-site or participate through QR codes with their smartphones, enhancing the experience.
Additionally, at the permanent experience space near the exhibition exit, visitors can create their own 'Eye-Path' by attaching various shapes of paper.
This activity was particularly popular among families with children.
Every weekday at 3 PM, there is a hands-on guided program where participants can enter the artwork and listen to explanations.
After enjoying a wonderful exhibition at the museum, stepping outside reveals the expansive Ansan Hwarang Park surrounding the Gyeonggi Museum of Art.
With its beautiful lake and well-maintained walking paths, it's a perfect place to enjoy the lingering feelings from the exhibition.
Ansan is also the first city in the country designated as a 'Cultural Diversity Hub City.'
The charm of Ansan, where diverse cultures and arts coexist, resonates with the message of 'respect for different perspectives and senses' proposed by the Gyeonggi Museum of Art's 'Eye-Path' exhibition.
Another cultural space worth visiting nearby is the 'Kim Hong-do Museum.'
Located just 15 minutes by car from the Gyeonggi Museum of Art, the Kim Hong-do Museum embodies the historical significance of Ansan, where the genius painter Kim Hong-do grew up.
Here, you can enjoy both Kim Hong-do's works and trendy contemporary art exhibitions.
With a well-designed outdoor sculpture park and walking paths, it's a great course to complete your 'art museum outing.'
Exhibition Information for Kim Hong-do Museum
▪ Operating Hours: 10:00 AM - 6:00 PM (Closed every Monday, January 1, and during the Lunar New Year and Chuseok)

The exhibition 'Eye-Path' transforms the places where my gaze lingers into paths.
Upon exiting the exhibition, I experienced the surrounding scenery in a slightly different and special way.
This weekend, why not explore the vibrant culture and lush nature of Ansan Hwarang Park, along with the Gyeonggi Museum of Art and Kim Hong-do Museum, to discover your own 'Eye-Path'?
