Recently, I went on a family trip to Jeju Island, where I discovered many beautiful spots to enjoy the sunset.

To match the sunset timing, we wanted to have dinner at a nice place. After searching for restaurants near the Jeju Regent Marine Hotel, we found one nearby called Gungseo Chae.

1. Location and Operating Hours

Gungseo Chae Jeju Tapdong Branch

Location: 6, Tapdong-ro 11-gil, Jeju City, 2nd Floor

Operating Hours: 10:00 AM - 10:00 PM

We were pleasantly surprised to find that the restaurant was just a 10-minute walk from Jeju Airport and only a minute from Tapdong.

When we arrived, it was dinner time, and the parking lot was quite full. I was a bit worried about waiting, but fortunately, there were plenty of seats available, and we were seated right away.

The interior was spacious, with large windows all around, providing a lovely view of the sunset.

I felt a sense of satisfaction for finding the perfect atmosphere I was looking for.

As I glanced at the self-serve bar, the side dishes looked appetizing. I had read that they make their own side dishes, which made me curious about the taste.

Families with young children were also present, and they had high chairs available.

Looking at the menu, I noticed that the dishes were set up in combinations, and orders could be placed for a minimum of two people.

For two to four people, the grilled hairtail comes as one fish, while the special size for five comes with two fish, making it ideal for larger groups.

2. Happiness in a Four-Person Set

It didn't take long for our food to arrive, and the table was filled to the brim, which was impressive. The presentation was neat, raising my expectations for the taste.

The entire meal cost 159,000 won, which felt like great value for the amount of food we received.

The side dishes from the self-serve bar were served in beautiful dishes. I was eager to try the kimchi first, and it tasted distinctly homemade, unlike factory-made versions, which was delightful.

3. Beautifully Plated Side Dishes

The rice was topped with tender hairtail, infused with a subtle fish aroma and a fluffy texture. They also served a seaweed soup, which had a clean taste that paired well with the dishes.

We also got to try abalone sashimi, which showcased the freshness of the ingredients. The thickness was just right, and the texture was enjoyable.

Additionally, we had grilled abalone prepared on a stone plate to keep it warm. The buttery aroma was enticing, and the texture was soft and flavorful.

We were served Dombegogi (pork belly), which was cut into two pieces per person. The balance of fat and lean meat was perfect, making it neither greasy nor smelly.

Among the lighter dishes, the squid sashimi stood out, mixed with various seafood and vegetables, making it visually appealing and delicious.

The crunchy texture of the vegetables, the tenderness of the squid, and the spicy seasoning combined perfectly with the Dombegogi for a delightful experience.

5. Stunning Grilled Hairtail and Braised Hairtail

Finally, let me introduce the main dishes! The grilled hairtail was served on a long plate, and I was amazed by its size and thickness.

At the Jeju Regent Marine Hotel, the staff also removes the bones for you. The moist fish was incredibly tender, retaining its juiciness.

The braised hairtail included large octopus and abalone, making it a nutritious dish. The fish was boneless, making it easy to eat, and the texture was just right for adults.

Especially, the octopus was fresh and firm, without any unpleasant odor, allowing the broth's spiciness to shine.

The braised hairtail was also soft and easy to swallow, with the seasoning deeply soaked into the flesh, enhancing the flavor.

Overall, I was pleasantly surprised by the generous meal I had at Gungseo Chae while searching for a place with a great view of the sunset. I would love to bring my parents back here in the future.
