Visiting Taehwa River Cavepia in Ulsan was longer and more interesting than I expected!
The entrance fee is 2,000 won for adults and 1,000 won for children, making it an affordable family outing.
When it rains or the weather is too hot or cold, the options for places to go with children in Ulsan become quite limited.
Every time I passed by Taehwa River, I thought I should visit someday. Upon entering, I found it to be quite enjoyable with many attractions.
The current visiting hours are from 09:00 to 18:00, with the last entry at 17:30. It is closed on Mondays, January 1st, and during the Lunar New Year and Chuseok holidays. The hours may also change due to weather conditions or facility inspections.
Although the parking lot is available, you need to walk about 550 meters to reach the entrance, which might feel a bit far. However, the path is flat, making it manageable for strollers or children's scooters. The walk takes about 10 minutes, so it's best to take your time if you're with young kids.
The path to the entrance is not just a straightforward walk; it's enjoyable to stroll through, with seasonal flowers, greenery, and artificial waterfalls creating a pleasant atmosphere before entering the cave.
Inside, you are given a safety helmet due to the cave's potential hazards. Once you put it on, you're ready to explore.
Initially, I thought it was just an artificially created tourist cave, but learning about its history changed my perspective. Taehwa River Cavepia consists of four artificial caves that were used by the Japanese military during the colonial period to store supplies. These have been restored into a tourist and experiential space.
The Ulsan Nam-gu official tourism guide also introduces these caves along with their historical background.
Inside, there are not only lighting displays but also opportunities to learn about Ulsan's past and the cave's history, making it a fascinating experience for both children and adults.
There are also photo zones for capturing beautiful moments, with many areas adorned with stunning lighting, especially in the dark tunnels.
Visiting on weekends can be crowded, so weekdays might be a better option.
The second cave offers a completely different atmosphere, with each of the four caves featuring unique themes: the first for historical experiences, the second for adventure, the third for a sketch aquarium, and the fourth for seasonal events.
The digital sketch aquarium is a fun point for kids, where they can draw and see their creations come to life on a large screen. This interactive experience encourages longer stays, especially for children who enjoy drawing.
Overall, Taehwa River Cavepia is a fantastic indoor destination in Ulsan, suitable for both summer and winter visits, as it is less affected by the weather. With a mix of historical exhibits, light tunnels, animal themes, and interactive experiences, it offers great value for families.
In summary, if you are looking for a special indoor outing with your child in Ulsan, consider adding Taehwa River Cavepia to your itinerary!
