Exploring Cheonmasan's Cypress Forest Retreat

I recently enjoyed a light hike to Cheonmasan in Ulsan's Buk-gu, where I also experienced a phytoncide forest bath at the cypress forest retreat.
There are various hiking trails at Cheonmasan, but the most popular route is the one leading to the Cypress Forest Retreat.
At the entrance of the retreat, you'll find a pleasant deck walkway near the Maseok Reservoir, ideal for a leisurely stroll.
This area is frequently visited by local residents for hiking and walking, and it offers a spacious free parking lot.
On weekends, visitors can check the Forest Damda website to register for family forest experiences at the Cypress Forest Retreat.
Starting from the Maseok Reservoir, I followed the signs leading to the Cypress Forest Retreat.
As it was my first time, I relied on the cypress forest signs along the trail. The entrance was lined with many pine trees, and thankfully, I didn't encounter any affected by pine wilt.
As I ascended the mountain path, I spotted a grove of cypress trees.
There are several resting spots with pavilions and benches along the trail, allowing hikers to enjoy a phytoncide-rich forest bath.
The evergreen cypress trees, valued for their high-quality wood, are known for emitting a significant amount of phytoncides compared to regular trees.
Curious about the Cypress Forest Retreat, I continued up the trail until I reached the lower resting area.
Here, I found wooden benches nestled among the cypress trees, a perfect spot for a quiet cup of tea and reading.
Further up the dense cypress forest, I reached the upper resting area of the Cypress Forest Retreat.
This retreat features two areas: the lower and upper resting spots, both surrounded by untouched cypress groves.
The retreat is located in a shaded area of the densely wooded forest, making it best to visit in the morning or around lunchtime.
Initially, I planned to enjoy a forest bath at the Cypress Forest Retreat, but I decided to change my plans and hike to the summit of Cheonmasan.
The distance from the upper resting area to the summit takes about 10 to 20 minutes.
As I approached the summit, I noticed some unvaccinated pine trees suffering from pine wilt, a reminder of the impact of climate change.
I finally reached the summit of Cheonmasan, standing at an elevation of 296 meters.
This mountain is one of the seven peaks in Ulsan's Buk-gu, along with Dongdaesan, Ugasan, Muryongsan, Dongchuksan, Hoammandi, and Gireong.
From the Cheonmasan summit observatory, I enjoyed a refreshing view of the cityscape of Ulsan Buk-gu.
Compared to other mountains in Ulsan, Cheonmasan is a low mountain, making it an excellent choice for beginner hikers.
After escaping the dense urban buildings, I felt rejuvenated by nature at the Cypress Forest Retreat.
