Not far from Jeonju, Awon Hanok is situated in Wanju's Oseong Hanok Village. Upon arriving at the parking lot, a staff member kindly explained the ticketing process and the route for the visit. Entering the premises, I was greeted by a sensory space filled with music, visuals, and mirrors.
As I turned to the right, I was captivated by the stunning view of Jongnamsan and the vibrant green landscape. The refreshing breeze and open vista made me feel as if I had stepped into another world.
Walking past the area known for BTS filming, I followed a narrow concrete path adorned with beautiful ivy-covered walls, leading me to a modern gallery.
There were also spaces for visitors to relax, and I noticed a puppy comfortably resting in one corner.
As I ascended the stairs towards Awon Hanok, I was welcomed by a bamboo forest. The sound of swaying bamboo clashing in the wind, accompanied by birds chirping, made me feel as though I was strolling through a forest away from the city.
Here, I learned about the rare bamboo flowers, which are brown and symbolize good fortune in some cultures. It was enjoyable to search for the remaining bamboo flowers along the walking path.
Awon Hanok is designed for visitors to start their tour from the right side, where captivating views await at every turn. The modern architecture, tranquil Hanok, and refreshing bamboo forest blend seamlessly, each offering unique charms.
Upon reaching the Hanok after passing through the bamboo forest, I was reminded of scenes from historical dramas. The elegant Hanok harmoniously blended with the surrounding natural beauty was truly breathtaking.
Throughout the Hanok, I observed people enjoying their time in various ways: some dressed beautifully for photos, others creating memories with friends, and families relaxing together.
One of the most notable features of Awon Hanok is that the four traditional houses were relocated from different regions. Two houses from Jinju in Gyeongnam became Yeonhadong and Seolhwadang, while a house from Jeongeup in Jeonbuk was reborn as Manhudang. A space previously used as a study in Hampyeong, Jeonnam, was also moved here.
Observing the intricate structure of the Hanok, assembled like a puzzle without a single nail, and the aged wood that has withstood the test of time, I felt the depth of history embedded in every corner of the space. Each relocation took 3 to 4 years, and it took over 15 years to complete the entire space.
After touring the Hanok, I sat in the Sarangchae and enjoyed a drink. Despite it being early June, a cool breeze flowed through the Hanok, allowing me to experience the saying that Hanoks are cool in summer and warm in winter.
Sitting on the porch, I gazed at the green scenery, captivated by the sight of an elderly couple holding hands while walking, families creating memories, and friends sharing stories. I too spent some time gazing at the distant mountains, finding solace in the moment, escaping the hustle of daily life.
After exploring Awon Hanok, I recommend visiting Wibong Falls, which is a short drive away. The viewpoint along the road offers easy access to the waterfall, and the refreshing water adds to the richness of the Wanju experience.
At Awon Hanok, not far from Jeonju, I encountered the beauty of Korea and the tranquility of nature. I hope you take the time to sit on the Hanok's porch, feel the breeze, and enjoy the serene landscape.
